Edge to early-pressing types on the main. Turf course played fair.
A pair of turf wins for Francisco Torres. Pat Mouton saddled two winners on the card.
3yo Lion Heart filly Mayhaw pulled off a facile prominent throughout tally in the opener and might be ready for local stakes company. Carlos Gonzalez booted home the winner for Andrew Leggio Jr.
Nice debut win by Cee Bailey Zoom ($5.60) in the 3rd. Brian House is strong with firsters and even more deadly with debut maiden claimers.

Summer Bird Sighting

Had the pleasure of joining my LAD colleagues and members of the media on the backside on Thursday morning. We got to spend about twenty minutes with Summer Bird and his gracious trainer Tim Ice.
It seems as though Mr. Ice and company are thinking Haskell-Travers for the Belmont winner because they are looking for grade one races, but the Super Derby (G2) remains an option since it is in right around the corner from his stall. The late striding son of Birdstone might not find the speed conducive Monmouth oval to his liking.

Summer Bird has LAD connection

Surprise Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird has a strong connection to Louisiana Downs. His conditioner Tim Ice was new to the training scene when he came to LAD last year. I was also a newbie in Louisiana, and Mr. Ice came to my office and read my form on day last summer. Less than one year later he is a classic winning trainer…awesome!
Summer Bird is stabled at Louisiana Downs, and it would be great if he contested the $750k Super Derby on September 19th.
