No riding or training doubles on Sunday. PVal, back from injury, found the winners’ circle in the 6^th aboard Sturges Ducoing first time starter U Belong To Me.

On the analysis front, I got home value top Wild Strike ($14.20) in a day that saw six of my 2^nd and 3^rd choices score. I also correctly tabbed the 4^th race superfecta, and the $186.40 pick three ending with the 7^th race.

Fair Grounds Preview – Dec 7th

A 9-race program will be run at the Fair Grounds on Monday, and three turf races are scheduled. The skies are expected to be cloudy with a 40% chance of showers. Highs in the upper 60’s. Pick 6 carryover stands at $3,688.

Monday’s feature race is an optional claiming turf route for fillies and mares. It is an interesting contest between stakes quality entrants Category Seven and Love To Tell. The former is a gem of consistency, and the latter has been on a steady stakes diet.

Fast main track and good turf (Pago Hop). Edge to early/pressing types on the main track. Patient types did well in the lone race run on the sod.

Hat trick for Shaun Bridgmohan included a pair with trainer Steve Asmussen. Agilar and Lanerie both booted home a pair. Cody Autrey saddled two winners on the day.

Exciting renewal of the Pago Hop Stakes went to Akilina, who held on by a determined head over Dancin Perfect. Christophe Clement saddled the winner, and Shaun Bridgmohan capped off a big day in the irons.

When I perused the Saturday rider changes I noticed a familiar name…welcome back PVal!

A 10-race program will be run at the Fair Grounds on Sunday, and four turf races are on the docket once again. The skies are expected to be cloudy with highs in the low 60’s. Note that all of the races were taken off the turf this week with the exception of the Pago Hop Stakes on Saturday. Pick 6 carryover stands at $2,621.

Fast main track and off the turf. Note that the rains arrived late, and the track was sloppy for the 10^th race. Numerous wire jobs on Friday as early-pressing speed dominated. Title Clear (3^rd race) was the only off the pace winner on the day, and he bested fellow closer and heavy fav Great Planet by a neck.

Richard Eramia booted home a pair, and Jose Riquelme/John Barger teamed up for two wins on the afternoon.

On the analysis front, I got home tops Sun Valley Storm ($5.80), best bet Girlysgotitgoinon ($4), and Angelonmyshoulder ($12.20).

Fair Grounds Preview – Dec 4th

An 11-race program will be run at the Fair Grounds on Saturday, and four turf races are on the docket. The skies are expected to be mostly sunny with highs in the 50’s. Note that the races were taken off the turf on Thursday and Friday, and the track was sloppy (sealed) for the 10^th race yesterday. Pick 6 carryover stands at $1,503.

The Saturday feature is the $60k Pago Hop Stakes for 3yo fillies traveling a mile on the turf. Akilina is the one to beat for Christophe Clement. If this race is moved to the main, keep an eye on wire job threat Redreamit. Distant Kentucky Oaks runner-up Stone Legacy (Wayne Lukas) is entered for main track only purposes.

Fast main track and off the turf. Three wire jobs on the main including a pair at a mile and seventy yards.

Hat trick for Shane Sellers, and two more wins for James Graham.

Friesan Fire did not return in the pink on Thursday. He rallied to finish an even 3rd in a race he surely had to need, and the Steve Asmussen runner should move forward next time. Good And Lucky sat behind the two frontrunners and powered home for Shane Sellers and Josie Carroll. Glamour Guy rallied from last to finish a clear 2nd.

On the analysis front, I got home first race top Deceptive Ruler ($11.80), and no less than seven of my 2nd and 3rd choices got the job done. I also successfully tabbed the early double, first pick three, and 3rd race superfecta.

Four main track sprint wire jobs. A stalker and a closer made up the two route winners, and patient runners fared best on the grass.

James Graham and Eddie Martin Jr. both booted home a pair.

Cya Later Bert stayed close enough to inside speedster Unexpected Valor in the 7th, and the heavy chalk wore down my best bet by a 1/2 length. The winner deserved to score at the speed friendly six furlong distance. Watch the replay here.

Candy Delicious was always traveling well and appeared home free in the grassy 8th, but Red Moon Cat (Graham-Keen) made a determined run and cost me the late pick four. My top was clearly 2nd best and should graduate on the weeds in short order. Watch the replay here.

2009 Louisiana Derby winner Friesan Fire returns to action in today's 8th race at Fair Grounds

Another big day on the analysis front. I got home tops Mr Winthrop ($35), Celestial Show ($14.60), and Rodeo Miss ($9). I also successfully tabbed the 1st race exacta ($121.40), the $273.60 early double, the 4th race exacta ($26), and the 5th race trifecta ($114.80).

Pick 6 was hit to the tune of $7,154.80.

Fair Grounds Preview – Dec 3rd

A 9-race program will be run at the Fair Grounds on Thursday, and a new month begins a 5-day (Thurs-Mon) schedule, with the exception of Christmas week. The weather is expected to be partly cloudy with highs in the 50’s.

The highlight of the Thursday card is the return of 2009 Louisiana Derby winner Friesan Fire. He is now under the care of Steve Asmussen and has Gulfstream Park’s Donn Handicap on his radar screen. Check out his Horse Racing Nation profile page here.

The pick six begins in the 3rd race, and early-pressing speed has been the name of the game in six furlong races recently. If that trend continues, keep an eye on Yankee Romance.

They're off at Hollywood Park!

The 4th race will be run at a mile and a sixteenth on Cushion Track, and this is another speed friendly distance. Halo’s Law could be the one to catch as he stretches out in distance.

Back to six furlongs for the 5th race, and you might have to go deep to get through this wide open leg. Lady Alex is the tepid 7-2 fav breaking from the rail. This is my MySpace free pick of the day.

Six furlongs on the turf in the 6th, and this distance has played fair so far. There is a good mix of speed and closers in this contest, and this is my Horse Racing Nation free pick of the day.

The feature will be contested at the unusual distance of seven and one-half furlongs. This is a virtual replay of the On Trust Handicap as the top three from that event are back in action today. Star Nicholas, Bestdressed, and Enriched are the On Trust trio and the ones to beat in this compact 5-horse affair.

Six furlongs to end the card, and Bubbley Blonde is the one to catch if she breaks cleanly this time around.

Evolutionist ran to his low odds with a sharp win in the 23rd running of the Woodchopper Stakes. James Graham booted home the turf stakes winner for Bill Mott.

2009 Louisiana Derby winner Friesan Fire returns to the Fair Grounds against optional claiming company next Thursday

Wow Wow Wow (10th race) was aggressively handled by Jacinto in wire job route maiden tally for Wayne Lukas. A pair of Al Stall Jr. trainees (Dr. Hudson, Hazards of Love) followed the winner across the line, and they should not be maidens much longer.

On the analysis front, I got home tops Gail Golden ($5.80), Brentwood Bullet ($5) and best bet Blue Angel ($7.40). I also successfully tabbed the 2nd race superfecta, the early double, and a few pick 3’s along the way.

Pick 6 carries again, and the pool is up to $6,188.

Fair Grounds Preview – Nov 29th

A 10-race program will be run at the Fair Grounds on Sunday, and two grass races are on the schedule. Another nice weather day on tap with partly cloudy skies and highs in the 70’s.

Speed continues to rule the day, especially in main track sprints. If that trend continues, watch for Cagey (1st race), Katrina’s Song (5th race), and Unexpected Valor (7th race) to have success on Sunday.

Four wire jobs (3 at 6f) on the speed favoring main track. Turf course played fair with an early runner, a pair of stalkers, and a closer accounting for the four winners.

Curt Bourque booted home a pair, and Brian Hernandez Jr. rode two winners for the red hot Steve Margolis.

Euroears is back in top form following sharp wire job tally in the Thanksgiving Handicap. Jamie Theriot booted home the Bret Calhoun trainee.

On the analysis front, I got home tops Silver Sands ($10.40) and Credit Only ($11.40). I also successfully tabbed the $15.20 3rd race exacta, my $29 best bet exacta in the 6th, the 7th race superfecta, a pair of pick 3’s, the late double, and the $436 late pick four.

Pick 6 carries again, and the pool has crept up to $4,659.

Fair Grounds Preview – Nov 27th

A 10-race program will be run at the Fair Grounds on Friday, and four grass races are on the schedule. Another beautiful day is expected with sunny skies and highs in the low 60’s.

As mentioned above, trainer Steve Margolis is on a roll, and he has Key Play in the 4th and Cheer Up in the 7th.

Track has generally favored early-pressing types on the main track, especially in sprints.
