That being said, Agile Web Solutions, the maker of 1Password recently launched the much awaited version 3 of 1Password. The new versions brings us a fancy new interface as well as some great features such as 1Password Anywhere.

1Password Anywhere allows you to view your information via web browser from Linux, Windows and of course the Mac. All you need is Safari or Firefox as well as access to your agile keychain. You can do this via USB stick or save your agile keychain in your DropBox account and your good to go.

Other great features of 1Password 3 are the ability to attach files to your item, editing your information via web browser, using tags to organize your items, the ability to organize software license and others. A total of over 50 new features that will make using 1Password all the better.

Syncing 1Password to the iPhone or iPod Touch also got better. You can now select the items that you want synced to your mobile device.

1Password: It Just Keeps Getting Better

Ironically enough, Duke Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski isn’t a fan. The new rule specifies an unmarked zone under the basket where referees can call only blocks and not charges on offensive players.

Coach K is probably arguing against a block call at this very moment.

“It’ll be a joke, because it will become a joke,” Krzyzewski said, according to SI.com.

Coach K agrees with the purpose of the rule, because he believes that players shouldn’t be called for charging underneath the basket. But he said the no-charging zone — which extends from the backboard to the front of the rim — should be marked on the floor. Otherwise, it’s a guessing game.

I think the new rule is silly. Offensive players shouldn’t have the right to run over the defense on the way to the basket, no matter where they are on the court. Look for more coaches to come forward and complain about this rule during the season.

New College Basketball Rule Irks Coach K

I was never really a big fan of Apple’s mice. From the hockey puck one and all the mice in between up to the Mighty Mouse, I felt it was ok but there were far superior mice at a fraction of the cost.

The Magic Mouse is different… oh it’s so different. It looks sleek and it seems like it’s right out of a sci-fi movie. It’s in heart it’s still a mouse but it’s so much more. It’s like combining a mouse and a trackpad in one pointing device. You can click and drag but you can also scroll and swipe without using a button or the irritating trackball that the Mighty Mouse had. You use the whole surface of the mouse to navigate pages and scroll through your iTunes collection.

It as no moving parts so it’s going to be durable. Apple says it can last up to 4 months on a single set of batteries so you know it’s energy efficient. It’s so well thought of and constructed for a device that’s supposedly simple.

True to Apple’s identity when they went to redesign their mouse, they really put a lot of thought and work into it. The result is a device that is so simple at the surface but so magical underneath it.

So much so that I patiently waited till a friend of mine went online just so I can ask him to try and bring me home one. It happens that he’s in the U.S. for a trip and I’m here in Manila. We won’t be seeing the Magic Mouse for maybe a month so I wanted to see if he could get me one sooner. Oh God please, I hope he does.

Apple’s Magic Mouse is Simply… Magic!

James discovered the lump early last year and had to undergo numerous tests to find out whether it was cancerous or not.

LeBron James had a lump removed from his jaw in June.

“I was working with some good professionals,” he said, according to ESPN.com. “They were telling me they didn’t think it was cancer, but we had to be sure, of course.”

Thankfully, the lump was benign.

I’m surprised that this information is just coming to light now, but it’s understandable why James would want to keep it on the D-L. It’s been a bumpy year for him — first the lump, then the loss to Orlando in the NBA East Finals, and now he may have Swine Flu.

I guess even mega-superstars can have a run of  bad luck.

LeBron’s Cancer Scare

Sergey Brin who is a co-founder and the President of Technology over at Google has written an article over at New York Times titled “A Library to Last Forever” wherein he defends the company’s viewpoint on their development of Google Books.

Sergey explains that books gets lost forever and he cites the article written in 1916 about electric cars on the Electric Journal which was almost lost, had it not been in the public domain. He contends that today we all talk about electric cars, but these things where already extensively studied almost a century ago. He argues that books published after 1923 gets lost in a literary black hole and nobody recalls them anymore except for tenacious researchers at premier academic libraries.

Next, Sergey says that paper is temporal and books continually gets lost to age, improper care and disasters. Amazon would not like this viewpoint as they are trying to digitize everything via their Kindle device and instead of people shipping out books in paper, they would rather get them wirelessly. Having said that, Amazon is going to argue on this against Google Books.

Sergey defends Google Books on the author and publishers belief that they are being cheated. Sergey says this is not the case as the authors themselves control the pricing and access of their works in Google Books. “Orphaned” books however will be subject to default rules on pricing and access, and revenues would be stored in case the author re-appear. Thousands of these authors might have already passed away with no one else to claim the revenues. So what would Google do with these unclaimed money?

Finally, Sergey says that no one else wants to do what they are doing and they are not locking out other vendors or creating a monopoly. There are vendors in this business like Amazon whose Kindle device and vision of digitizing books, magazines, journals is just starting up. You have other paid vendors like Microsoft’s Books24×7 or Coverleaf which put magazines online. There are so many vendors in various forms who are already in this business and Google is just trying to index all these books in one big sweep to lock out the competition.

Anyways, the idea of Google Books is awesome and while publishers and authors are not happy with it, I believe this is going to benefit the world. While there are Books24×7 who have digitized thousands and thousands of books, paying hundreds of dollars a month on subscription fees is a “no” “no”.

For this one, I am routing on Google and hopefully things go out well as Judge Denny Chin has put a deadline on the revised settlement (more information found on the Google Books settlement).
