“Dawson’s Creek” The Complete Series

]]>
Before you start rolling your eyes (or pretending to) I know a lot of guys who were closet fans of Dawson’s Creek.  Sure a lot of people said they watched it because of their girlfriend, heat wife or sister but there’s a reason why the show catapulted the careers of Katie Holmes and Michelle Williams even though I never found either of them all that attractive.

Maybe that was part of the charm, though.  I think the thing that made people like this show was that the cast looked like regular kids that you might find at your own high school.  The writing was good for most of the seasons but I wasn’t particularly happy with how the series ended.

If you want to relive it all, you can pick up the Dawson’s Creek: The Complete Series DVD set.  It was released earlier this week and includes 24 discs containing all 127 episodes.

What the Heck is Going on With Aerosmith?

]]>
First there’s been all of these reports, from reputable sources like Billboard, that claim lead singer, Steven Tyler, has decided to leave Aerosmith after what seems like a million years of togetherness.  They quote guitarist, Joe Perry, as saying that the band is “positively looking for a new singer to work with.”

S TYLER AEROSMITH IPOL ANGELO

Really?

Okay, first of all, this isn’t like a drummer or something that people may or may not notice has been replaced.  This is Steve freaking Tyler.  He IS Aerosmith to a lot of people and I just feel like he’s irreplaceable.  It doesn’t make sense to me that they would look for someone else.  If Steve goes, respect your music, fans and legacy enough to shut down the band.  I promise that I won’t pay money to hear someone else sing “Love in an Elevator” and I’m sure I’m not alone.

Everything hit the fan after rumors surfaced about the lack of communication in the band.  People were saying that Tyler had hired his own manager and was planning to focus on a solo career at the age of 61.  Perry said that Tyler hung up on him when he tried calling him recently.

Now, it’s being reported, again by Billboard, the Steven Tyler ISN’T LEAVING THE BAND.  What?!?!?  I swear, for a group of middle-aged men, it’s amazing how much they sound like teenage girls.

Tyler reaffirmed his position as the lead singer in true rock star form – he got on stage, sang “Walk This Way” and then said the following to Perry: “I am not leaving Aerosmith.  You are a man of many colors, but I am the motherf–king rainbow!”  Owned.

Welcome back, Mr. Tyler.

“Monsters Inc.” on Blu-ray

]]>
The four-disc edition of Monsters Inc. is now available on Blu-ray and I can see why a lot of people would want to grab a copy.  This is one of the best Disney/Pixar movies – it was inventive and funny but the effects were downright stellar.

monsters inc In the movie, we get to explore the world of the monsters who lurk in closets and under the beds of children, waiting to scare them.  Giant, blue-furred James P. “Sulley” Sullivan (John Goodman) is the best scare-monster in Monstropolis, a city powered on the screams of little kids.

Sully’s life is pretty perfect until he and his friend, Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), “discover what happens when the real world interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed “Boo,” who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one night.”

It’s funny, it’s touching and it’s family-friendly without being too boring for adults.  Overall, this is just a fantastic film!

“2012” Soundtrack Now Available

]]>
The original soundtrack for the upcoming disaster movie, 2012, was released today and I can foresee a lot of people picking it up, especially fans of American Idol.  Last season’s runner-up, Adam Lambert, has a track on the album called “Time For Miracles” and, after hearing it and seeing the music video, I think the song is going to do quite well.

The film stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Woody 2012 soundtrackHarrelson and more as people who try to find a way to survive the end of the world.  Heartwarming… although I’m sure the effects are going to be awesome.

Here’s the massive track listing:

  1. Time for Miracles (As Used in the Film 2012)
  2. Constellation
  3. Wisconsin
  4. U.S. Army
  5. Ready to Rumble
  6. Spirit of Santa Monica
  7. It Ain’t the End of the World (As Used in the Film 2012)
  8. Great Kid
  9. Finding Charlie lie
  10. Run Daddy Run
  11. Stepping into the Darkness
  12. Leaving Las Vegas
  13. Ashes in D.C .
  14. We Are Taking the Bentley
  15. Nampan Plateau
  16. Saving Caesar
  17. Adrian’s Speech
  18. Open the Gates!
  19. The Impact
  20. Suicide Mission
  21. 2012 the End of the World
  22. Collision with Mount Everest

Now on DVD: “The Ugly Truth”

]]>
The Ugly Truth starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler is being released on DVD tomorrow and I didn’t see it in the theater and I’m not completely sure I’m going to rent it either (I’m definitely not going to buy it).

I’m more of an action fan so romantic comedies tend to annoy me but sometimes they can be fun.  The film is intended to portray a battle of the sexes but I’m not sure it accomplishes anything other than being predictable.

Mike (Butler) is a TV star and Abby (Heigl) is the morning show producer.  They work together so I guess it would make sense that he would give her some relationship advice.  She tries to take his suggestions to heart but they yield unexpected results (two guesses – these two fall in love instead).

If you’re in need of a date movie this week, this is probably a good option but I’m not sure I would go out of my way to see it.

“Keeping Up With the Kardashians” Season 2

]]>
The fourth season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians premiered last night but if you’ve missed some of the earlier episodes, you might want to pick up a copy of the complete second season which will be released on DVD tomorrow.keeping up with the kardashians

As described on Amazon, “Kim, Khloé, and Kourtney are back in the limelight, focusing on their individual careers, while mom Kris tries to keep the family together and manage her daughters’ professional lives.”

Of course, by the time this second season rolled around, the family had become a lot more famous so viewers will get to see how the Kardashians handle their new popularity?

Plus, the ladies try to give stepdad Bruce Jenner a fabulous makeover while their younger brother Rob manages his modeling career and the new woman in his life.

There’s a lot to see so if you’re a fan, pick up a copy (even if it’s just to see more of Kim’s well-rounded butt!).

“Up” on DVD and Blu-ray Tomorrow

]]>
Disney/Pixar’s Up has been heralded as their best animated film to-date and I have to say that it really was a great movie.  Tomorrow, it’s being released on DVD and Blu-ray and I would recommend picking it up if you haven’t already seen it.  It’s a great family flick but it’s good enough that adults will be interested in the story.

In the film, Carl Fredericksen (voice by Ed Asner) is a 78-year-old curmudgeon who, after the death of his wife, sets out to make their dream journey to Paradise Falls in South America alone.  He rigs thousands of balloons to his house but, after floating away, discovers that he’s got a stowaway on his front porch – Wilderness Explorer Scout, Russell (Jordan Nagai).  The boy is trying to earn his Elderly Assistance Badge and he gets more than he bargained for when he makes his way through the tropical jungle with Carl.

Critics also loved this movie with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 98% Fresh rating.

“Dexter” Season 4, Episode 7 Recap

]]>
Last night’s episode of Dexter began with the arm of a female victim being found in the belly of an alligator.  One might assume that the animal was the culprit but wounds on the wrist showed that the woman had been murdered before she was fed to the gators.  After the victim was identified, Miami Homicide discovers that she was a model and was among several women who had disappeared after working with a certain photographer.  dexter season 4 episode 7

Meanwhile, Quinn’s reporter girlfriend, Christina, tries to get an interview with Debra and the detective asks her big brother to help get her off her case.  When the reporter tries to corner Deb at the station, Dexter steps in and irritates Quinn with his attitude.  Dexter then reminds Quinn that he saw him steal money from a crime scene and tells him to get his girlfriend to back off.  When Quinn learns that Dexter kept his apartment for eight months after getting married, he questions what Dexter is hiding and follows him to a nightclub where he planned to nab the photographer.  Fortunately, Dexter spotted him and sent a girl over to the detective by pretending Quinn was someone famous.  He was distracted long enough for Dexter to sneak out

Trinity was off his game for the entire episode.  He freaked out when he was unable to start his chainsaw out in the woods where he took Dexter to cut down a tree.  He was irritable but got worse after accidentally hitting a deer who darted out in front of his van.  When the two got out to check on the animal, Dexter told Trinity that the deer needed to be put out of his misery.  Surprisingly, Trinity said that he couldn’t do it and seemed genuinely distressed.  Dexter kills the deer for him and Trinity takes his fresh lumber home.  It’s later revealed that he’s building a coffin.

Debra convinces LaGuerta to allow her to open an investigation on the Trinity Killer which, of course, upsets Dexter.  He still wants to learn more from his fellow serial killer and doesn’t want to risk Deb figuring out who he really is.

It was a pretty big episode for Deb in general, actually, since she also had the opportunity to meet with one of her father’s CIs who explained that the man had several girlfriends among his informants.  Disgusted, Debra decides to stop her search into her father’s past and it’s not a moment too soon – Dexter’s mother’s file was the next in her pile and he’s relieved to see that she hadn’t made it that far.  He tells her that he will return all of the files for her and shreds his mother’s paperwork and begins to shred her picture too but stops himself saying that he won’t let her get cut up again…

It has become obvious to some of the people in the department that something is amiss between LaGuerta and Batista.  After they are individually asked about it by Quinn and Debra, Batista goes in to talk to LaGuerta about it and they both confess to missing their relationship but they don’t take it any further.

Dexter enrols Cody in the Young Sailors program and was initially thrilled by the prospect of the boy being more busy (which would give Dex more time to do his killings) but then he realized that he’s expected to volunteer to chaperone events like an awful camping trip that Rita forces him to attend.  After Cody and the other children go to sleep, Dexter sneaks off to take care of the murderous photographer.  He kills him but then later discovers that he has exacted revenge on an innocent man.
