Now Playing: “The Men Who Stare at Goats”

Have you seen the promos for the new movie The Men Who Stare at Goats? The name is so cheesy and so are the trailers but I can’t help but be intrigued, especially when you consider the cast.
The movie stars Ewan McGregor as “a reporter who delves into the world of psychic military regiments during the Iraq War.” I’m not completely sure how goats are involved in the storyline but I do know that the cast is rounded out by George Clooney, Kevin Spacey, and Jeff Bridges.
It looks like a dark comedy and it’s supposedly based on a real story …read more
Disney’s “A Christmas Carol” Opening Today

Your eyes are not deceiving you – yet ANOTHER adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, is being released. This newest version, starring Jim Carrey, comes to theaters today and, in all honesty, I wonder if they aren’t a little too early with this one. I know that Halloween is behind us now but American Thanksgiving hasn’t happened yet so I’m not sure I’m quite ready to see a holiday movie.
I don’t know if you really need an explanation but this classic tale features the ghost of Christmas past, present and future but with a twist – this movie …read more
La Toya Jackson Scene on “Bruno” DVD
November 4, 2009 by Jeanne Dupuis

Bruno was released just days after the death of Michael Jackson and, out of sensitivity for the loss, producers removed a scene from the movie featuring a prank on La Toya Jackson.
The scene is only 90 seconds long but it is pretty rough since it shows Bruno mocking the Jackson family. According to Usmagazine.com, “La Toya is tricked into doing an interview with a fake Austrian fashion journalist, played by Cohen. Cohen’s character, Bruno, then asks to see her phone, finds Michael’s number and starts saying his number in Austrian to his assistant. When La Toya gets fed up with …read more
“Food Inc.” on DVD and Blu-ray

There seems to be a trend emerging after films like Supersize Me captivated audiences – people are making and watching documentaries about food, how it is made and how it affects our bodies.
The most recent addition to this collection of films is Food, Inc. which takes a close look at food production in the United States. I haven’t seen it yet but, from what I’ve read, it looks like this movie shows audiences the price we actually pay in order to have low-cost food.
Of course, the large American food producers were pretty upset about the film and its …read more
“The Dark Crystal” on Blu-ray

When The Dark Crystal came out on DVD, I snatched it up and I’m sure some Blu-ray fans are going to do the same thing. Halloween was yesterday but this Jim Henson classic can give you the creeps year-round. If you haven’t seen it, seriously pick up a copy.
First things first, yes this movie was created by the master of puppets but don’t assume this is a child-friendly film. I saw it as a kid and there were definitely scenes that I wish I hadn’t watched until I was a little older and one of my children insists that she’s …read more
Is a Third “Men In Black” Necessary?
November 1, 2009 by Jeanne Dupuis

It’s being reported that Columbia Pictures is moving ahead with plans to release a third Men in Black film. Honestly, if Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith (who currently do not have deals in place for this project) are not involved, I’m not even going to consider giving it a chance.
It’s unlikely, though, that either of them would turn down the opportunity. It’s not like their careers are running at full-tilt right now anyway, right?
The good thing is that the storyline doesn’t necessarily require continuity and will be guaranteed to feature several things: aliens, special effects and Tommy Lee rolling …read more
“This Is It” Coming Soon to DVD and Blu-ray

While many fans are thrilled by the This Is It movie featuring Michael Jackson, others (including me) feel that it’s a tad exploitative. Still, audiences are flocking to theaters in droves since no one will ever get to see his much-hyped tour and this is as close as it gets.
If you aren’t seeing it on the big screen or you just want to own it, you won’t have to wait long. This Is Is is expected to be released on DVD and Blu-ray during the first part of 2010. There isn’t a solid release date but they are saying that …read more
“Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” on DVD and Blu-ray

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs has been released on DVD and Blu-ray so if you are planning to enjoy some family time over the Halloween weekend (or if you just like animated films), you might want to pick up a copy.
I heard some critics say it was the best film in the franchise and, while I wouldn’t go that far, I thought it was a decent enough movie. I read reviews and I was expecting a lot more comedy but I felt like it fell short of actually being funny a lot of the time.
Still, as I said before, …read more

Great Movies for Halloween!

Tomorrow is Halloween but, if you’re like me, you will probably spend the entire weekend watching scary movies and eating copious amounts of unhealthy food. Isn’t this a great time of year???
A lot of people want to hunker down and take in some horror flicks but many aren’t sure what to watch. Really, it doesn’t have to be all blood and guts – that’s what is so great about the genre – since there is so much variety to choose from.
Of the films in theaters, the better choices are the highly rated Paranormal Activity along with Saw VI and …read more
