“Star Trek” on DVD and Blu-ray

The newest instalment of Star Trek was released on DVD and Blu-ray this week and I immediately picked up a copy.  Being a huge Trekkie, I was really worried when they decided to go back and start the series from before Kirk was the captain of the Starship Enterprise. I was so pleasantly surprised by what J.J. Abrams did with the characters and storyline.

Not everyone in my life shares my passion for Star Trek so I thought it was great that Abrams really found a balance between giving fans the sci-fi flick they needed while making it also an action-packed …read more

“Fight Club” on Blu-ray Contains Prank

Fight Club was released on Blu-ray this week and director David Fincher thought it would be funny to include a little prank for fans of the 1999 favorite.  When viewers load up the disc, some of them might be surprised to see the menu screen for Never Been Kissed.  I would definitely be confused if I saw that!
The Fight Club menu does show up after a few seconds so it’s not like you’ve got to look at Drew Barrymore forever so I think it’s a funny gag.  Of course, Barrymore’s cute and romantic storyline starkly contrasts that of Fight Club …read more

Movie Review: ‘The Blind Side’

Movie Review: ‘The Blind Side’

As an NFL writer for the past ten years, Michael Oher’s remarkable story is not new to me. I was introduced via Michael Lewis’ 2006 book The Blind Side. It was a fascinating account of how the position of left tackle in the National Football League has evolved into one of its most important and highest-paying jobs. After all, the left tackle’s role is to protect the “blind side” of the highest-paid player on the team—the quarterback. The focus of the book is offensive line prodigy Michael Oher, a big, homeless ghetto kid from Memphis, taken in by a rich …read more

In Theaters: “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”

You might be a guy who is actually interested in the highly anticipated sequel to Twilight but, if you’re going to see New Moon this weekend, chances are you are going with a date.  Either way, this movie is going to dominate the box office this weekend without question.

The film picks up after the events in Twilight.  All is right in the world of Bella and Edward until Jasper loses his mind and tries to attack her at her own birthday party.  As a result, Edward believes the noble thing is to leave his true love forever and she practically …read more

“Star Trek” Sequel to Be Released in 2012

Though fans originally were anticipating what was supposed to be a summer of 2011 release date for the Star Trek sequel, plans have now been changed. Producer of the films, J. J. Abrams told SCI FI Wire that we should now be expecting the film to be released in 2012.
He said that the extra time would be beneficial,”You use what you’ve got. The more time you have, the more time you have to use to hopefully make it a better movie.
Co-producer and writer, Damon Lindelof said, “Yeah, I think that we would be hard pressed to get it on screens …read more

More “Independence Day” Movies Coming?

Director, Roland Emmerich, is considering releasing two more movies to follow-up the storyline in Independence Day.  My first thought was “why?” but then I thought of the fact that this man also put out 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow (a damn fine movie if you ask me) so it would appear the man just loves disaster movies.
After all these years, I’m not sure why this old movie needs to be resurrected.  Have we completely run out of things to make movies about because, if that is the case, maybe we should slow down the production.
Emmerich also said that …read more

Rachel McAdams In Spider-Man 4?

More casting rumors continue to circulate about the upcoming Spider-Man 4 and I’m just not completely sure where they are going with this movie.  Mania.com is reporting that director Sam Raimi is considering the addiction of a new character – Black Cat.
This “villain,” who is also known as Felicia Hardy, is a possible love interest for Peter Parker so it’s hard to know what her role would really be like.  Raimi is reportedly looking at Rachel McAdams for the role and I guess I could see that.
She’s got the right look and body to pull off a Catwoman-type ensemble and …read more

“Kick Ass” Posters, Images and Trailer

Kick Ass will be released on April 16, 2010 and I’m not completely sure that I’m sold on it.  In the movie, a teen decides that he wants to try living his life as a superhero – with no powers.  He somehow convinces some friends to go along with this idea and we end up with four wannabe heroes – Kick Ass, Hit Girl, Red Mist and Big Daddy (who looks suspiciously like Batman).

If that doesn’t sound silly enough, Nicholas Cage takes on the role of an ex-cop who hates drug lords so much that he actually trains his daughter …read more

Watch Angelina Jolie in “Salt” Trailer

Angelina Jolie stars in the upcoming film, Salt, which currently has a release date of July 23, 2010.  I know it’s a far ways off but the trailer is circulating around the internet so I thought I’d check it out.
In the movie, Jolie is Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent who is charged with treason.  As a result, she’s got to use all of her skills to stay alive and find out how to clear her name.

For a million reasons, I like Jolie in this role.  She was great as the wife of a spy in The Good Shepherd and her …read more

“2012” Now in Theaters

The disaster movie, 2012, is being released in theaters today and I think it’s going to do extremely well.  First of all, I don’t think it’s got a lot of competition at the box-office but I also believe that the theory that the world is coming to an end in 2012 is popular enough that people are going to flock to see this movie.

The film stars John Cusack and I don’t know if I’ve ever thought of him as an action movie star but, in a weird way, I can totally see this working.  Everyone likes a smart underdog in …read more
