“Grease” Video Game in Development

]]>
A new series of video games on the popular musical (and film), Grease, is being developed by Paramount Digital Entertainment and 505 Games exclusively for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS.  They should start to become available in 2010.

I’m not sure (and details are scant) what a Grease video game would include but since it’s only for the Wii and the DS, I’m assuming it will involve using the Wiimote or Stylus in some way.

Since the musical and movies are known for their dance moves, as well as their musical numbers, it could be possible that the Wii Balance Board or some sort of Dance Dance Revolution type mat could be needed (at least for the Wii version).

I guess the most telling thing is the following statment from Paramount: “Grease is the ideal opportunity to reach a broad gaming audience who love to sing, dance and have fun with a party-style game.”

Who knows?  Maybe they are working on something entirely different and we’ll all be surprised and/or blown away.  I doubt I’ll be pre-ordering this one but I’m definitely curious.

Bayer DIDGET meter, DS Glucose Reader

]]>
A Nintendo DS glucose reader for kids that can be plugged into the DS or DS Lite’s Slot-2 has came been out on the market. Paul Wessel, the parent of a diabetic child, has helped to develop the Bayer’s DIDGET meter which can reward children for consistent testing.

Test results can be converted into reward points which can be used in the game to unlock levels and purchase in-game stuff. The games are Knock ‘Em Down: World’s Fair video game and Mini Game Arcade.

A pretty useful DS device to help the kids but not for the DSi though.

Create Your Own Xbox Games

]]>
Microsoft Research’s Kodu Game Lab is now available for download on Xbox Live and I can’t wait to try it out.  Why is this so exciting?  Kudo is a new visual programming language that allows players to create their very own video kudo game labgames.

If you are concerned about not being tech-savvy or experienced enough, don’t worry!  I’ve read that it is very easy to use and was “originally unveiled where a 12-year-old girl created a game with the program.”

The developers insist that it was designed to be “accessible to children” and the only tools required are a game controller and your imagination!  I don’t know about you but this sounds like a lot of fun!

Here are some quick details:

  • Developer: MSR Kodu
  • Genre: Family
  • Game Rating: Unrated
  • Players 1-4
  • Co-op 2-4
  • HDTV 1080p
  • Custom Soundtracks
  • Online Multiplayer 2-8

There is a free trial version available for download but, if you like it, you can buy the full version for just 400 Microsoft Points (about $5).  What would you make?

Xbox 360 Portable Revision 5

I was hoping to get images permission for this BEFORE I wrote it, but alas, Twitter can be a slow beast and this is the only image I have to show for my efforts at this point:

benheck-tweet

Yeah. I know. That’s pretty lame but I needed to get this done and didn’t have time to wait for a reply. If Mr. Heck decides that I can use his images then I’ll post them up in here and you Xbox fans can drool while you eat your cheesy poofs and drink your Mt. Dew.

Next best thing to images is a video so I’ve included a short video by Ben Heck of his Xbox 360 Portable Revision 5. It’s like a laptop but cooler since it’s actually an Xbox 360. I can hear the fan boys squealing right this second.

It’s OK to squeal, guys.

This is a very cool piece of machinery. Watch the video, check out Ben Heck’s blog with all of its picture goodness and take comfort in the fact that Ben Heck just might make a couple more of these.

***Updated***

I got a tweet last night right before I went to bed from Ben Heck giving me permission to use his images. Yay!

Resident Evil:Darkside Chronicles Screens

]]>
If you’ve been waiting for a game for your Wii that doesn’t include some sort of dancing, fitness or cartoon racing then your wait is about to end.

Well…OK…so you have to wait until the end of the year but that’s not so long. Right? It is. I admit it but come on! It’s Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles and it’s sure to rock the socks off of anything available right now.

Hell, go pre-order it from Amazon right now and you’ll feel better for it.

New “Furry Legends” Trailer

]]>
The second official trailer of Furry Legends for WiiWare has been released and I think it looks like a lot of fun even though there isn’t much information about it yet (although, I am guessing that green furry ball is the main character).  The game should become available on December 31, 2009.

In case you don’t know about it, WiiWare allows you to download games from the Wii Shop Channel (I’ve gotten some old titles like Super Mario Bros and Ice Climbers!).  As is the case with anything you get from the Virtual Console, you’ll need Nintendo Points to purchase games through WiiWare.

Sackboy Anatomy

]]>
If you’re a fan of Little Big Planet then you’re going to LOVE this.

Jason Freeny at Moist Production does some of the most amazing digital work that is so detailed it looks like it should come from an anatomy book. But, it’s gummy bear, balloon animals and Sackboy anatomy.

Cool, no?

At Moist Production, you can download Desktop wallpapers, iPhone wallpapers and even buy t-shirts and original prints.

Pretty freakin’ awesome if you ask me.

Let Your Fingers Do The Dancing

The Dance Dance Revolution or affectionately known as DDR may be not as hot as before but its effect is evident in this Finger Dance Alarm Clock. In order to stop the alarm, you must use your fingers to dance the right sequence. Else, use your leg to execute some sleek moves but break it at your own risk. £9.99 for one.
