New Redesign of iGoogle

I noticed earlier today that iGoogle has gone through another slight redesign. Maybe you could consider it a little bit more than a slight redesign though since some of the basic navigation has been switched around.
As you can see from the image above, the navigation and links are now listed in a sidebar on the left-hand side of the page, with each component on the page listed below each page name. Quite a bit different from how the original tabs were displayed at the top of the page as shown below.
I like the new layout though. Not really sure why, maybe it’s just because happy with the almost expected sidebar navigation with most sites.

Not to be a Luddite here, but Google’s arbitrary re-design of iGoogle, with no obvious option for users to go back to the old design if they want to, reminds me too much of Microsoft saying “We know what you want, here it is, now shut up”. Makes me worry about them.
Yes, what is going on? I left my office this afternoon with the old design intact and arrived home to find that it had changed. We have no option? C’mon, Google, don’t act like MS.
