I agree more people are going to start hitchhiking for sure and incentives like offsetting the gas are going to be very attractive. When I was doing some research on hitchhiking I found out that the danger of it all is not the getting picked up by a stranger but the fact you are at the side of the road and to be successful you need to get dangerously close to traffic. The whole rising gas issue scares the crap out of me because I have never lived in a time where buying gas is competing with buying food and transportation is not a luxury item - we all need to get to work to make money. I have had emails from people saying stuff like "It costs me 10 bucks in fuel a day to get to work and that is what I make in an hour - what happens if the price doubles?" 2 hours of pay just so you can work an 8 hour shift! that is pretty scary.

It seems to be a new "summer time" theme.....longer days, higher temperatures and even higher gas prices. It is as if "they" knew we were thinking about driving around a little more or something? Sounds like the oil guys are trying to hit us when it hurts most.....rather than being able to roam this beautiful country of ours with family and friends we are resorting to popsicles and the sprinkler. What a bummer! With all the commutting going and and goods and services being shipped up and down our highways (with empty at least one seat) - why can't a good guy stick his thumb out once in awhile? I'm just waiting to see heards of people "hitching" up and down I-75 with refrences and a gas card to persuade a traveler heading the same way in the same spot "TIRED OF PAYING $4.00 + a gallon"!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing with our readers! Pickup Pal is a very interesting idea and I'd think it should really take off as an option as gas prices inevitably continue to rise.

Hey Madison - we are trying to make it mainstream. We looked at what was going on in this space and saw that nobody was taking it seriously - so we stepped up to the plate. Soaring gas prices are a real and present problem and we think we can help.

The way we look at it - if we don't do something who will?

I am very surprised that this pickuppal isn't a mainstream deal. Had never heard of it and was just searching around for a more economical wayvto visit dad this summer. With gas prices soaring and owning a "gas guzzler" I had to check out possible options. Not sure if the ste is geared more to commuters or what, but my fingers are crossed.
G'as prices have me to the point of "sticking the thumb out" on I-75 and packing some mace......that is no joke. If there are any ways to get around cheaper and having less of an impact on emissions, count me in!
