Save Time With Bloglines
Bloglines is probably one of my absolute favorite inventions in the world…other than naps and pastry. What is Bloglines? From the site itself:
“Bloglines is a FREE online service for searching, subscribing, creating and sharing news feeds, blogs and rich web content. With Bloglines, there is no software to download or install — simply register as a new user and you can instantly begin accessing your account any time, from any computer or mobile device. And it’s FREE!”
Did you catch that it’s FREE? (and that somebody really likes the ALL CAPS button?) Anyway, I have around 200 Bloglines subscriptions that I try to scan through every day – you can see my subs here.
So how does this all work? Well, any Web site that has a RSS feed – which according to Jen Kyrnin is basically
“an easy way for Web sites to share headlines and stories from other sites” – can be subscribed to. It’s a way for content to come to the searcher, instead of the searcher looking for the content (of course, you have to actually find sites to subscribe to).
Pretty much any site that updates its content on a regular basis has an RSS feed. If you use Firefox, you can tell that a site has an RSS feed because you’ll see a little orange square in the bottom right-hand corner of your browser window. Click on that square, and that particular site will be added to your Firefox Live Bookmarks. However, I MUCH prefer Bloglines – for me it’s just an easier system to use.
