Awkward Family Photos

We’ve all had them. Those family photos that we wish we could go back in time and retake or just not show up for at all. I’ve got a family Christmas photo that catches me in an award-winning stupid grin, and also highlights my waistline as you can almost hear the button on my shirt screaming to release and pop-off.

The Awkward Family Photos website captures these photos we wish were never taken and shares them with the universe. Something scary and hilarious about it at the same time.

As you can see from the screen shot above from the site, I can’t even show you all of the current photo. It’s too much. Really? Really? You decided to get your picture taken like that? You’re going to have to visit the Awkward Family Photos website to see for yourself.

One question I have, how do they get these photos? They say they’re submitted by people, but I’ve got to think even your friends wouldn’t do this to you! Only one more reason to make sure those embarrassing photos never make it out for public viewing.

Hat tip to my friend Cherie Lowe, a.k.a. The Queen of Free for uncovering this website for us.

Take Your DailyMugshot

I found this website today after Kyle Lacy had an update of his own photo posted with a link on his Facebook profile. The DailyMugshot makes use of your webcam to take a picture of your face on a daily basis and share them with the world.

I’ve been shopping for a nice webcam for myself and sites like this just seem to give me one more reason to need one. The good news is that you can start using it immediately without a webcam though as they will accept photos from digital cameras or your cell phone.

The Daily Mug shot began when I came across a dude who took a picture of himself every day and turned it into a video. He had taken pictures of himself every day for years, and the video was amazing. I thought: I want to do that too! Then I began thinking about what sort of system would make the entire process as easy as possible, and furthermore, what would be the most fun and easy way to show these videos to friends on the net.

Have you already heard of Daily Mugshot and been using it? Let us know in the comments and we’ll take a little look-see on who’s reading the site. Would love to meet more readers and get to see you at the same time.

Here’s a very cool video that’s really no video at all. It’s a movie that’s made from 4000 still photographs edited together into a smooth video.

Here’s a fun a little website that lets you morph your face or the face of one of your friends. I believe there’s an application called Goo or something that lets you do this as well.  However, with Moron Face you can do it all for free.

Might be an interesting little tool to give yourself a unique new avatar for your Facebook profile or twitter account. Of course it will be unique until everyone asks you where you got your cool new avatar and they make one for themselves.

Either way, have a little fun and freak out your friends with a little binary plastic surgery at Moron Face.

picnik - FREE Online Image Editing

picnik

Another great online application I was reminded of while at Blog World Expo 08 is picnik. I’m should be ashamed that I haven’t shared this site for you all yet. It’s a great app that does just about everything most users would want with regards to photo-editing, while all the time being FREE!

Tris Hussey showcased this little app during his "How to be More than a Blog: New Media Integration" session.

Check-out this list of features you can take advantage of in the completely free version of picnik:

  • Fix your photos in just one click
  • Use advanced controls to fine-tune your results
  • Crop, resize, and rotate in real-time
  • Tons of special effects, from artsy to fun
  • Astoundingly fast, right in your browser
  • Awesome fonts and top-quality type tool
  • Basketfuls of shapes from hand-picked designers
  • Works on Mac, Windows, and Linux
  • No download required, nothing to install

Can you believe that? What else does 80% of the online population need in their editor?

The only drawback I can think of is that it’s online and not offline, so those surfers with a slower Internet connection may find the experience less than amazing. Those of us with broadband connections.

Perhaps even just as impressive is that you can use picnik to edit your photos even when they’re already on some of the most popular image hosting sites available for Internet users: myspace, flickr, facebook, photobucket, Picasa, webshots, freewebs, and of course those images you’ve already got sitting on your own computer.

snapture

I’m not one of the few chosen or select few that has an iPhone, but the won’t keep me from letting you know about a slick little website that lets iPhone users really showcase and highlight the photos they can take with their iPhone.

The website that’s going to make that happen is Snapture.

What exactly is the goal behind Snapture and the folks that develop it though?

At Snapture, we believe that mobile photography is the way of the future. But although more and more people are taking pictures on their cell phones, we think the tools available to take such photos are still relatively simplistic. Our goal is to help people take better mobile pictures by enhancing the quality and sophistication of the camera software on your cell phones.

Snapture just loads your iPhone with a collection of additional features and controls that make taking photos more fun and more interesting. Just check-out this feature list to get an idea of what you can do: geotagging, color modes, multi-shots, thumbnail mgmt, gesture zoom, auto-rotation, set touch zone, quiet mode and more.

With Snapture and your iPhone, maybe you folks will actually move another step closer to having one device that really can do just about everything you need.

Now, go hang-up your phone and start taking some pictures with Snapture!

Photrade – Make Money from Your Photos

photrade

Have you heard of Photrade? I uncovered the Photrade website awhile back through another website I’d visited and an email newsletter I received about the upcoming blogINDIANA conference coming up in Indianapolis. I then realized they were also advertising on this blog here so decided to check them out.

I was quickly impressed with what you could do with sharing your photos and even making money from them as well.

Photrade is where photographers reclaim ownership of their photos. Photraders decide how, when, where and at what cost their photos are used online. We provide unprecedented protection for photos and offer a free photo marketplace where photographers can sell stock, prints and merchandise or use our Adcosystem (TM) where photographers get paid for every view of their photo, anywhere on the internet. Through Photrade, publications and blogs can access a fast-growing library of legally licensed, ad-supported photos. Reclaim your photos, start photrading.

Now they’ve expanded their offerings some more an can now provide an even broader range of border options available for your photos.

The Photrade site is currently in beta and you need an invite code to sign-up and join, but don’t worry, we’ve taken care of that for you as well. Just enter B5UTI as your invite code to let them know you heard about it here and check them out.

When you sign-up for an account look me up, I’m “bnpositive” on the site. I’d love to hear what you think.

I’m always on the look-out for new places to find some stock photography and other images to potentially use on some website for clients or just  get some inspiration for creating a completely new graphical element for design.

Photrade is a new website that’s currently available by invite only so I haven’t been able to really get into the site and see what it’s all about. However, after briefly browsing through their catalog it looks like they’ve got some great content.
