Over the years I’ve written about quite a few different sites and interesting things you can find on the world wide web. The web is loaded with fun stuff to find and share with others and hopefully we can keep uncovering interesting items and useful sites for you to enjoy.

Just a quick note to let you know that I’ll be blogging from Blog World Expo for the next few days. It’s my first trip to Vegas (other than a layover where I just stayed in the airport once) and my first attendance at a Blog World Expo event as well.

I’m looking forward to meeting some new people and hearing about some great blogs. For that reason, I’m guessing that most of my posts for the next couple of days will be about interesting new blog sites I’ve heard about or met the author.

Stay tuned because we’ll be back soon. Right now I’m going to go take a dam tour and hopefully pick-up my dam hat.

It’s not much to look at, but it’s hilarious to read through the site and hear the statements taken out of context that people have overheard.

The site was developed by Mark Jaquith one late night at the b5ranch during SXSW 2008. There was an ongoing joke where various people would say things that were funny through the week and we’d keep repeating them. The best is when the statement had some additional meeting when you removed the contextual statements surrounding what was said.

The wasoverheard site works in conjunction with twitter. All you have to do is follow @wasoverheard on your twitter account. Then, when you hear someone say something funny, you just tweet it to @wasoverheard anonymously.

So, your twitter udpate would look something like:

d wasoverheard @bnpositive I hear funny people

If you don’t include the person’s twitter name the statement will be attributed to “someone”.

If you find someone really interesting that always seems to put their foot in their mouth you can see all of their statements by entering their twitter name as a sub-domain path:

• http://sheaj12.wasoverheard.com
• http://technosailor.wasoverheard.com
• http://jeremywright.wasoverheard.com
• http://scobleizier.wasoverheard.com

These things are always more interesting when you’re with a bunch of friends that also twitter. You know, at things like conferences. Hopefully we’ll see a lot more action on the site during Blog World Expo next week.

One of the more interesting applications I’ve been using lately is twitter. At first I didn’t really get it. I was already using IM and blogging and e-mail of course, so the ability to blast out a short little “tweet” about what I’m doing just seemed like a waste of time.

I didn’t really catch on to the power of the application until I attended SXSW a few weeks ago in Austin and the entire b5 team used it as a sort of GPS tracking and status update mechanism for anyone in our group. We used it for quick information like:

• Where’s everyone at?
• We’re doing dinner at __________ at 6pm?
• Heading back to the ranch, who needs a ride.
• and of course @wasoverheard

Since coming back to the “real world” away from Austin and SXSW, I’ve been using twitter to stay in touch with everyone I met and what they’re up to.

Just today though Darren Rowse, the Problogger, alerted me, via twitter of course, that he was enjoying twittervision.

Twittervision let’s you see various tweet’s coming in from all over the world. People who I don’t know of at all, but it’s interesting to read what people are saying thousands of miles away.

Careful! It’s addictive.

Since I can’t even begin to start thinking about limiting that down to a functional list I figured I’d throw it out to the group. Here’s a new poll about what website you couldn’t live without. I’ve started with a few entries that came to mind quickly, but this poll will let you add your own site as well.

The privacy concerns that have been demonstrated by the Beacon program is well documented. One guy bought his girlfriend a an engagement ring on Overstock.com and she found out about it by reading his Facebook profile where Overstock had posted this fact on the guy’s profile without him knowing. Personally, I’ve been dismayed to find my Gamefly activity documented as well as a car rental I purchased through Hotwire for later in the month.

That’s just downright idiotic! What in the world are they thinking?

If you’re concerned, it may be time to ditch Facebook until this gets cleaned-up, or perhaps more likely, FOREVER! Dang it! and I just stumbled across the Scrabulous application too!

The Land of Regift website beats Elf Yourself with regards to making it easy to share an embed the code to share with others.

Don’t forget about Scrooge Yourself too! All of them remind me of the humor that JibJab puts together on a regular basis.

I forgot all about CBS usually having a Survivor Fantasy League. I stumbled across it this evening and signed up for one. I also setup a private tribe that if you’re interested you can join in on the fun.

With this private tribe, I can only have 8 people join so it will be the first 8 people that leave me a comment asking to be invited to the private tribe.

I love Survivor and if you’re a fan as well you can catch-up on past episodes on CBS’ innertube site as well as get all the lovely gossip and scoop on Survivor and just about every other reality TV show known to man at Reality Exploits on the b5media network.

If we have a good turn-out and some competition, maybe I can rustle up something to give away as a prize to our winner in my tribe. What do you think?
