Save Bucks and Dine-Out with Restaurant.com

My family has this thing about eating out at restaurants. We do it a lot! We used to laugh that when our kids were only a year or two old, we could drive down a street and they could see the restaurant signs and call out the names of the restaurants. Sad.

As much as I like eating out, I’m also a big fan of saving money whenever possible. My wife has even started calling me OCD (Obsessive Coupon Disorder). I really try to never pay “regular” price for something.

When I found the Restaurant.com website, I was happy that I could now combine two of my favorite past times. Eating and saving money.

Restaurant.com lets you search for restaurants in your area, print off a coupon and save some significant dough on your next meal out. We recently used it for a place here called The Incredible Pizza Company (like Chuck E. Cheese but MUCH better!). We purchased a $25 gift certificate for only $10 bucks. Paid for it online, printed it off and took it wish us right then and there!

A quick search for other restaurants near us provided a list of over 60 within 15 miles of our zip code. Plenty of great deals available at each.

One note, be sure and check the restrictions, sometimes you have to spend over a certain amount to use your certificate, but there are plenty of ways to get over that hurdle. Join friends for dinner and put it all on one bill or just splurge and have some appetizers or desserts.

Be the Match Be a Donor and Save a Life

If I told you that you could save someone’s life with a couple minutes of your time and a big Q-tip, would you do it? Of course you would! That’s all you need to do to determine if you could Be the Match for someone fighting cancer.

A friend of mine from college has fighting lymphoma for awhile now. This past November, our college alumni helped sponsor a bone marrow match drive and partnered with Be the Match to help make it a success.

They planned the drive to happen during Homecoming weekend at our college. They were told to be happy if they had 100+ people register and test to be a match, they had almost 500 participate!

The other night my family and I were watching an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC and they also partnered with Be the Match to help find and register donors out of their huge army of volunteers.

Find Where Kids Eat Free Tonight

My family has become keenly aware of the best places to eat out with our family and save the most money. Tonight we were hungry for a little something out of our normal game plan and wasn’t sure what other restaurants may have some specials available where kids eat free.

Tonight I found out about a new website called KidsMealDeals.com where you can enter your zip code, a mileage radius and what day of the week you’re looking for and will return a list of restaurants with deals for kids.

The options for us tonight consisted of Golden Corral, which is not my wife’s favorite place to go by any means. If we were going out tomorrow night and looking for a deal, I’d know we could go to Denny’s and get two free kids meals with each adult entree purchase.

The KidsMealDeals.com website helps you find the best places to make your dollar go further when you just don’t feel like cooking something at home.

Soon the KidsMealDeals.com website will also allow you to pick the type of cuisine you’re interested in eating. Not sure about you, but I’m still trying to get my kids to try more Thai, Indian and Greek food. Right now I just need to make sure wherever we go has chicken tenders.

This Internet thing may just take off and we could all become rich! Just put a website and cash in right? That’s so 1980’s! It’s still can be fun (or perhaps depressing) to see just how much your website may be worth.

The Website Shadow site will give you an idea of how much your site may be worth depending on a variety of parameters and factors. It gives you more information than just what’s it worth though, so it can be a handy little tool for a variety of reasons.

Just as an example, I typed in Facebook.com to see how much it was worth, which ended up being $5,217,501,744 by their estimates.

The other interesting information provided though include your traffic rank, Google PageRank, how well your website performs related to speed, demographics, traffic, geography, WHOIS information and more.

If you have your own website or manage the sites of others, you might want to add Website Shadow to your list of tools to use for some information recon. You can get details about your own clients and your competitors.

Photovisi – Easy and Custom Photo Collages

Using Springpad to Organize Your Life

I just heard about a new online tool recently called Springpad. It allows you to quickly organize and share a variety of bits and pieces of information that you collect throughout the day that are important to you and put them into defined structure and places.

The other benefit of Springpad is that it harnesses the power of the social networking world and allows you to interact with and share your collections of data with those that are important to you too.

I would say the power of Springpad doesn’t rely in it’s ability to collect your information though, it’s more powerful in the way it allows you to organize, share and complement what you’ve saved with other important information that’s related. This is the part of Springpad that impresses me and is both most helpful to me.

For example, I can save restaurants to my Springpad collection and there are integrated links for making reservations at that restaurant with OpenTable if available and restaurant reviews from Yelp as well.

GROUPON – Collective Buying Power Coming to Your City

My wife shared a link with me this evening that looks pretty interesting. It’s a coupon and discount site called Groupon, but it’s more than just coupons. It’s a marketing tool as well and the idea is to swarm a location or establishment with business. What company wouldn’t want that kind of attention?!

With coupons, you did like I did tonight and save a few bucks on a variety of different grocery items. Groupon let’s you save real money on some really great stuff that you’d like to do, but you didn’t want to spend the full price on it to do it.

Groupon was started by some folks in Chicago, just a short drive to north of Indianapolis and they did it so they could “enjoy all the great stuff in our hometown of Chicago”. Sounds like a good enough reason for me.

Groupon has grown to over a million users who have collectively saved more than $25 million with the service. That’s a pretty good track record for a site that hasn’t been around very long at all.

Have some fun, save some money.
