I normally don’t open emails with attachments that are sent from my family members like that, so I started looking for a website that shared the same information and found it on the Orble website.

We say our numbers are based on Arabic symbols, but before that Phoenician merchants used the numbering system themselves. The shape of the numbers has to do with the number of angle displayed in each number.

Over the years the shapes have simplified a bit and lost some of their original angles and turns, but overall things have remained the same. I thought the article was very interesting and figured I’d share it with everyone.

The challenge with picking up this math stuff wasn’t so much the remembering how to do it myself. The challenge was both reminding myself of what was going on, understanding the concepts involved and then, the hardest part, being able to explain it to someone else.

It’s said if you want to know whether or not you really know something, see if you can teach it to someone else.

I’m not sure I really "taught" this girl more about math, but I hopefully helped her understand the concepts a little more. In searching for the answer to my problem online, I uncovered the Stack Overflow website. It’s completely free to join and there are questions and answers to just about any question the geeks around us might have to ask.

You can use the easy tagging functionality to quickly jump to questions that have already been asked by the site’s users. You can even take advantage of the “recent” tag cloud in the sidebar to see what topics are getting talking about lately.

Users have the ability to earn badges for their participation in the site as well. Badges are earned for asking questions, answering questions and just being a good community member.

The Stack Overflow website will now be one of the first places I visit when I’m looking for a quick answer.

The other benefit of Springpad is that it harnesses the power of the social networking world and allows you to interact with and share your collections of data with those that are important to you too.

I would say the power of Springpad doesn’t rely in it’s ability to collect your information though, it’s more powerful in the way it allows you to organize, share and complement what you’ve saved with other important information that’s related. This is the part of Springpad that impresses me and is both most helpful to me.

My wife is already fearful that I’ve got the swine flu, the other white virus. I personally like to call it just feeling like crap and that my head may explode at any minute.

Microsoft has setup The H1N1 Response Center website to help me confirm that idea by teaching me more about the virus and whether or not my symptoms are worth getting worked up over and wasting a co-pay on at the doctor’s office.

“If current estimates are correct, many emergency departments across the nation could be overwhelmed by two groups of patients — those who have H1N1 and those who believe they have H1N1,” said Angela Gardner, M.D., FACEP, president of the American College of Emergency Physicians. “It is going to be essential that we use every tool and service at our disposal to contain this illness, and online H1N1 self-assessment tools, such as the one offered by Microsoft, can be helpful in providing people with ways to determine whether they should seek emergency care.”

The self-assessment took just a couple of minutes and has confirmed my own thoughts that I’m not suffering from the swine flu, I just feel like a big sow that’s been sitting on the couch all day trying not to move.
