The Turtleman – Noodling for Snappers

My wife just shared this video with me. I grew up in Kentucky and love my home state. There are some very eccentric country folk living in the Bluegrass state though.
Now noodling, the sport of catching catfish by sticking your hand and arm into a hole and letting them bite it, is one thing. But noodling for snapping turtles is something completely different. I’ve been fishing and seen a snapping turtle break a broom stick like a twig. You can believe these suckers he’s catching would take a chunk out of whatever they wanted that they could reach.
HavenWorks.com Leaves Me Speechless

There are those times where you uncover a website that you’re just not sure what to do with when you find it. The HavenWorks.com site is just that kind of site. My friend Simeon actually sent me a link for this site. It’s something to be seen for sure.
I’m really not sure what to say about the HavenWorks.com site. It does literally leave me speechless. It appears that it’s a randomly thrown together collection of links and information on current news events and politics.
The design is the draw, or repellant depending on your viewpoint. It reminds me of a …read more
I Got An Envelope… what did you send?

There’s a new website out there that’s kind of like a geo-caching hunt that comes to you. You find an envelope, put a little something in it and mail it off to someone. They receive it, take a picture and share about it on the IGotAnEnvelope.com website.
All you need to do to start to participate on the IGotAnEnvelope.com website is to address and stamp a plain, empty envelope. Leave a note on it, or write on the back and ask the person who finds the envelope to put a little memento into it and drop it in the mail. …read more

Do you love feeling good about yourself? You like thinking of yourself as smarter than the average person. We also enjoy getting a good laugh when we see others look stupid, because after all that makes us feel smarter too right?
The There, I Fixed It website follows in the footsteps of some of the other great photo sites on the web, many of which we’ve highlighted here on Uncover the Internet. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it doesn’t apply here. The images and situations shared on the There, I Fixed It website are definitely broken, I’m just not sure …read more
People of Wal-Mart

Over a decade ago my old roommate and I would joke about the different people we would see in our local Wal-Mart in Nashville, TN. We would just mentioned the word "clientele" and we would immediately know what each other meant and start looking around for whatever we were missing.
The People of Walmart website pays homage to the sites frequently on display at everyone’s favorite retailer.
There’s just something about the folks that you frequently see in Wal-Marts around this country that set themselves apart from the customers you might find in other establishments like your local Target, Meijer or similar …read more
Requested Christmas Gift – 5lb Gummi Bear

I’m normally not a big candy lover. However, one of my weaknesses is just about anything gummi. My personal favorites are the classic gummi worms and gummi bears, but also like the sour gummi worms too.
I’ve uncovered a website that provides what has now risen to the top of my Christmas list for the year. I can purchase a blue, green or red 5lb. gummi bear for less than $30. That’s 5lb’s of GUMMI GOODNESS! The equivalent of 1400 regularly sized gummi bears.
The Vat19 website has much more than ginormous gummi bears though. They’ve also go all kinds of other …read more
Go Web 0.5 With The Wayback Machine

Here’s a little news flash for everyone. Just about everything that was ever on the web could potentially still be found on the Internet. I don’t think many people realize that as they do what they do on their favorite websites.
The Wayback Machine is proof of just how far back you can go to find something you’d thought was hidden from everyone from now on. That’s not the case. As with the example shown in the screenshot above, each of those links are a snapshot of my personal website going back as far as 1998. A snapshot was taken …read more

A friend of mine told me about the FMyLife site. I hadn’t heard of it before I don’t think. A quick warning to you though, if you’re not sure what the “F” stands for in the title, think about the worst word you could pick and you’re probably on it or close.
Here’s what the folks behind the FMyLife site have to say about it. They cover it pretty clearly I think.
Fmylife.com is a weird and wonderful addition to the web. It’s a collection of everyday anecdotes and stories likely to happen to anyone and everyone, sent to us exclusively by …read more
What’s Your Web Persona

I came across this interesting site and made a note about it, but now can’t remember where I first heard about it. So, I’ll apologize in advance for not tipping my hat to whomever shared this with me.
Not sure what the proliferation of thoughts and ideas about personal branding have been coming from lately, but the Personas website from Metropath(ologies) lets you see what your name is being associated with online. You enter your name on the first page of the site and it begins building what looks like a timeline, but is really a bar graphing display …read more
More Amazing Architectural Video Projection Examples

It’s not the first time I’ve seen this type of video projection work done, but I’m still impressed by it. The transition from what’s "false" onto something that’s very real and massive in your perspective is mesmerizing to me.

I can’t wait until more of this type of thing becomes more mainstream. However, my concern would be that it would either get lost in the noise of it being overdone, or that it would be more of a distraction instead of an appreciation of the design of it all.
What do you think?
