Install Virtual Server 2005 R2 in Windows Vista

I previously wrote about problems I encountered installing and configuring Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 in Windows Home Premium. Apparently, home premium didn’t actually allow the installation so I had to switch over to Windows Vista Enterprise Edition (version description found here) which installed successfully.

After installation I found a lot of problems relating to security and could not get it running smoothly. After research and inquiry I still could not get it right; but then I realized the version I installed wasn’t R2 and was simply Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 — same version I have used successfully in Windows XP.

After I downloaded R2 version and everything went fine. Hope this helps some of you guys. It was pretty lame to make that mistake but it could surely happen to anyone especially those who have been using Virtual Server 2005 long enough in Windows XP.

I just installed MSVS 2005 R2 x64 on Vista Ultimate x64 and am having trouble getting to the admin page. It’s prompting me to save or run the VSWebApp.exe file. I tell it to run and it doesn’t do anything. I think this means IIS doesn’t know to “execute” this file extention. I’m guessing but it sounds like the setting “Scripts and Excecutables” from IIS 6 but where do you set that (or similar) in IIS 7? Installed fine otherwise. Thanks.

Yup, click on the properties for the site and choose run executables.

I’m actually trying to install Virtual Server 2005 on Windows vista Ultimate, but i’m stuck because it ask me to have IIS World Wide Web installed, and i have no idea about what that reffers (i have istalled IIS 7 that is included on Windows vista ultimate)
    What can i do ?

    Thanks

Important Note: Update for Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 Available
