Microsoft adopts Firefox RSS icon for IE7

New RSS Button.
Well there it is. Get used to it, because it’s the face of RSS feeds to come. Internet Explorer will adopt the Firefox icon as the smartest click in town.
The IE blog tells us that the team building IE7 actually visited Mozilla to get some consensus on the issue. Wow, the new MS sure is cuddly. How long can this last?
The IE blog says:
I’m excited to announce that we’re adopting the icon used in Firefox. John and Chris [Mozilla] were very enthusiastic about allowing us (and anyone in the community) to use their icon. This isn’t the first time that we’ve worked with the Mozilla team to exchange ideas and encourage consistency between browsers, and we’re sure it won’t be the last.
We’ll be using the icon in the IE7 command bar whenever a page has a feed associated with it, and we’ll also use it in other places in the browser whenever we need a visual to represent RSS and feeds. Look for more details on the look and feel of IE7 when we post the public pre-release build next year.

Check out what others are saying about this post...[...] Fellow b5 blogger John over at the Windows Vista Blog points out the warm open-arms of Microsoft with their adoption of the Mozilla RSS icon. [...]
[...] We already know some of the cool new RSS features in Vista, and we know that Microsoft wil use the standard RSS icon for IE7. Today I found some more info about RSS and Vista; Niall Kennedy has a post about the Windows RSS Platform and writes about the feed exposure to all Windows applications via a common API and applying common security settings to feed data and downloads (good stuff). Meanwhile Microsoft TechNet gets some more RSS Feeds (still using the old icon) and be sure to check out the Windows Vista Developer Center for RSS if you want to know more on this subject.
