The First Things You Should Download Before Using Windows Vista

MakeUseOf has a list of the first things you should download after you have received your Windows Vista system.

His list are:

Windows Live (Live Mail, Live Photo Gallery, Live Messenger, Family Safety)
Vista Codec Pack
Windows Search 4.0
Windows SteadyState
Download add-ons for Internet Explorer (IE7Pro, LeechGet, RikReader)
Windows Gallery

The first thing I do, even before installing the apps above, is ensure my Anti-Virus and Firewall protection are in place.

You can look at the link and explanation here.

Do you have other suggestions on things to download, settings to make, etc. with regards to Vista (on a laptop, using wifi)? I am a first time computer user and really need advice on how to make certain my machine is safe enough to use on the internet.
