Windows Vista delay in Europe?

Filed under Microsoft, Speculation, Windows Vista

Vista CD'sMicrosoft has raised the possibility that it might delay the introduction of its new Vista Windows operating system in Europe. The reason for this would be the dependency on the European Commission’s antitrust requirements.

Microsoft said in a statement it made concrete proposals to the European Union’s executive Commission, responding to its concerns about new features in Vista. “Once we receive the Commission’s response, we will know whether the Commission is seeking additional product design changes that would result in delay in Europe,” it said (via news.com).

This was on Microsoft’s annual investors meeting, where Kevin Johnson, co-president of Microsoft’s platforms and services division, also spoke these historical words: “We will ship Windows Vista when it is available“. So now you know!

Microsoft has already postponed the release of its much-anticipated upgrade to Windows for consumers to improve the system’s quality. They are planning to ship Vista for corporate customers in November this year. The consumer release is planned for January next year but few are taking Microsoft at its word.

Our estimates have already assumed a delay in the Vista launch to March or April,” Goldman Sachs analyst Rick Sherlund said in a research note Friday. Market researcher Gartner even said that the full launch of Vista could be pushed back until the second quarter of next year.

And we all know what Bill Gates said, estimating the chances of a January launch at only 80 percent
