Death Knights And Professions

Now that it’s confirmed that Death Knights will be starting at level 55 upon creation, that puts that issue out of the way. but ever since it was announced that Death Knights would be starting at a higher level to give the class an epic feeling that comes with it being a hero class, I’ve always wondered exactly what would happen to Death Knights and their professions.

Obviously Death Knight would have professions too. But starting at a high level puts them in an awkward situation when it comes to professions. When jewel crafting was introduced at the release of TBC, some of the level 60 people decided to drop a profession or two to get it. So in that case, you have a high level player going back to the lowbie zones and the AH just to get the materials to level it up. But this is a totally voluntary thing and you have a choice to stick with your professions. Death Knights don’t have a choice since they get created at a high level without profs.

A solution to this would be for Death Knights to complete a quest or a chain of quests that would instantly bump up their two profs of choice to a higher level of say 225. While this would certainly make the Death Knights happy, I can imagine how other classes would complain especially if it has something to do with the inscription profession or some of the harder professions to level like enchanting, engineering or blacksmithing. Which scenario do you think is better and more fair, having them start from scratch or being able to complete a quest to bump up the professions to avoid the annoying farming of mats in lowbie zones?

I think starting at a higher level would just make every new WOW player just roll a Death knight to get the skill. Any player that currently has high level toons already has multiple toons with multiple skills. I personally have a toon for almost every skill, even if they aren’t lvl 70 you can take them to skill lvl 300 and get almost everything you need. The more cushion we give new players, the more content we essentially remove from the game.

I guess it’s better to have it annoying yet still easy enough to do than to have a huge advantage over the other classes.

When my pally was in her 40’s I decided to switch to engineering. So I found myself going to lowbie zones farming the mats to level it up. I probably would be pissed myself at the time if there was a way to skip that whole process by just doing a quest available only to a lone class.

The only way I see the other scenario happening is if it involves a really annoying and long quest chain that would probably require a lot of farming of quest items and gold. And yet again, maybe it would be more worth it to just level up the profession.

I personally think its a good idea to be able to roll a deathknight and have them start at level 225 in both their chosen professions BUT that they should have to buy all the recipes even from the lowest levels. OR perhaps you would like the alternative. Deathknights swarming lowby zones, killing mobs to skin, mining and picking herbs meant for low level players, which I think would BOMBARD blizzard with complaints.

I feel Death Knights should start their tradeskills from 1. It would give them a chance to work on their World Exploration achievements. They already have it easier because they’re starting at level 55, starting tradeskills from 1 is just a “price to pay”. It’ll flood the AH with lower level gathered mats and crafted items, bringing the prices down for low/newbies. It’ll also fit in story-wise, giving the world a feeling of “being invaded” by this new class.

I think That the Deathknights should be able to get 2 of his/her profs to 225 from a quest or a chain quest, i mean its just my opinion but i still think it would make the game alot cooler But lets say someone that is not a Deathknight wanted to drop their profs to get 2 new ones i think it would be cool if they can do a chain quest to get their profs atleast to 100 that way they don’t feel so left out… lol. but i mean that a Deathknight is a Hero Class so their profs should be able to go to 225…

Starting a profession from scratch at 55 is really not that big a deal. Level 70s frequently start new professions from scratch, usually to drop a gathering profession that served its purpose and pick up a more useful craft, especially ones with sweet BOP items like Engineering goggles for instance.

  7. Mr. Jacob says:

Well, let the DK’s start there professions at 225, then you dont have to spend the first week, playing there character in low level zones, just to get there professions ready for outland…
Do to my self im warlock, so i dont mind, but i dont fell that it would be unfair if thats how i turns out.!

  8. nycon says:

ok seriously guys… i usually get to 60 THEN worry about my proffs… (when i get epic mount) usually only takes me about 3-4 days of 4-5 hours played each day to farm the mats needed to get to 300… so why should the dk’s get any special attention for proffs? i mean come on they start at lvl 55 AND get their epic mount befor they hit 60..free… whats next you want bliz to just give you a lvl 80 with maxed out proffs and epics? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN you want that kind of cheap crap go play a private server like all the other cry babys who cant do it the real way…

  9. Angelo says:

I’ve realized while working on my druid’s inscription (I started when he was level 67 when the patch came out and he’s now 70) that it’s really easy to work on your professions at a high level. It’s much better to bother later on when you have at least the lvl 30 mount (of course an epic mount is better) than when you work on it starting level 6.

I think Death Knights will be fine especially if they wait until they’re at least 60 (like nycon said) to bother with profs since it’s just going to be that much easier as a higher level character.

  10. miarmstrong says:

No one is stopping to consider lag and server issues. I am sure everyone has done professions at a high level. But how many of you had to do those professions competing against 5 thousand other high levels in the same area going after the same mats. About 2 years ago servers were crashing due to the dark iron dwarf event at the first brew fest. Sorry but the release of death knights is going to create way way way more issues then that event ever did.

  11. Blackminx says:

Alright, I see the potential issues here.
One, let us consider that a Death Knight is starting at level 55.
Two, they will not be allowed to leave the starting area until they are 60 if I recall correctly.
Three, when they do, they will be journeying to outlands to level to 70 and then from there to 80 in Northrend.
Somehow, as a long time World of Warcraft player, I do not see Blizzard caring about anyone’s whining and giving Deathknights a profession fairly easily. They are making leveling easier and easier and I am sure, professions is something they would not want people dipping too much time into.
What do I propose? A quest chain that requires them through lower level areas but not too arduous.
I mean if Blizzard really wanted to, I’d love to see a level 55 version of Van Cleef and such. That would be fun to hit up as long as it was my level. Maybe get the item there.
We will see though, no point in speculating and complaining.

  12. Praxiss says:

Now that Wrath is out and ive got my lvl 58 DK, (starting lvl is 55), and I have decided to pick up blacksmithing and mining. Seems like a logical choice to me and I havn’t made a BS before either. Now, im 58 and ready to go rip it up in OL but going there before my mining is 300 is just an undoubted, complete waste. We have to learn and do the profeesions like everyone else also, got them both up to 75 with about an hour and a half. But, yes, people are bitching about us taking “their” prof mats and yes we do have an obvious advantage over them. Which looking at it now I think blizz should have given us up to 225 or SOMETHING. Running around in Durotar taking ore from lowbies is much less desirable than kicking ass in HFP. I absolutley LOVED the DK starting area, sooooo well done and awesome but now having to farm ore to lvl profs is killing the expirence almost. They were nice enough to give us 270 first aid but that was it.
One thing I am looking forward to is killing any alliance that gets between me and my mithril =). One nice aspect I guess but im sure they dont appreciate it…

  13. Blackminx says:

Going off of Praxis, this is the exact situation I am seeing.
Granted, right now, its beautiful seeing all the unharvested goods in HFP but this is ridiculous. I mean, I spent 4 hours leveling herbalism and mining and I am still no where near 300. It turns out that many people realized what they were missing out and are all attempting to gather these plants and mines for their respective characters. Loop in the lowbies and wow, its just a “prick” fest, people attempting to ninja mines and such.
Really should have started it out at 225.

  14. Psylence says:

People are acting as if death knights haven’t been given enough. With level 55, an epic mount, and weapon skills leveled as well, is complaining about the ever so grueling professions starting from scratch for a Death Knight even logical? It’s not like it is the only class to have to level professions from scratch. All you guys are , are noobs looking for more and more handouts until the game gets so easy its not fun anymore. If Death Knights get free 225 professions, I will be deleting my Death Knight shortly after. (No point in supporting such a thing.)

  15. MASATO says:

if DK get free 225 prof skill this will mean AH drops to lowest level in WOW history..practically in-game economic disaster. the AH will be full of cheap mats, players will earn lower cash on auctions..this is only good for buyers, not for sellers…
i think DK shouldn’t benefit of this 225 skill free.

  16. Blackminx says:

You can call us noobs all you want but I think you really lost context of the word.
My issue is that they gave us all that yet they want us to run around level 10 areas anyway? That really seems like an oxymoron, once servants of the Lich King to run around in Elwynn Forest or Trisifal Glades seeking copper mines and killing kobolds on the way! Wow, that’s truly epic.
No, it is not, and it really did not jive with the story. I never said free 225, so stop nitpicking. I thought there should be a respective quest if not a money dump to do this. After all, you first need a level 55 on the server to make a death knight so you should be able to get the gold to handle the quest as well. Lets them continue on into the material they are intended for.
