Fishing overhaul coming… sometime

I think when Blizzard first designed the Fishing profession they wanted to make it feel like it was something you’d actually spend some time to do. Just like when you’re out mining for ore or gathering herbs, you usually allot some time into doing it. The way fishing is right now, it really has that feeling of ‘gone fishing’ except it’s not exactly as relaxing as really going fishing. In fact it’s quite boring!

After willing myself to level my druid’s fishing from scratch to about 200-ish skill level, I basically got bored. When you’re doing your rounds to gather herbs or mine some ore, at least you’re busy moving around searching for something to pick up. You get to see the sights and even get some thrill out of racing other people for that one herb or ore vein you’re all after. Fishing just makes you stand there for long periods of time repetitively clicking when you get a bite.
The good news for everyone who shares the same sentiment is that fishing is in the process of getting an overhaul, at least according to CM Zarhym. But that’s the extent of what we know since he couldn’t give any details or a time frame for it. Something tells me that they just might be in the stage of ” hey we need to change fishing, any ideas?” At least I think that because thinking about it now, I’m not sure myself how to overhaul it. Since overhaul means drastic change, I’m just not sure how they would do that.
One change that would probably be welcome is to change fishing from a two step process of letting out your line then clicking when you caught something into just letting out your line and automatically loot what you have when you caught it. I guess it would be similar to opening a chest. Since nowadays you’ll always get at least trash when you fish, this one step process will work, unlike before when you could catch nothing at all. Of course this will make it easier but it won’t make it any less boring so I really have no idea how to overhaul something like this.
