Green drake: future healer class idea?

Everyone knows that a lot of people dodge Oculus like the plague. It’s actually a nice place until you reach the last boss. The way this fight is different from the other fights in the game makes it both interesting and a curse and that’s why the risk of failing in this fight is higher than others. But I know that it’s an easy fight if only everyone knows exactly what to do.

Oculus drakes

I was one of those guys who avoided Oculus like the plague but I decided to go today since I’ve recently been doing the daily heroic with a group of friends and it happened to be the one for today. Since we’re patient with each other and our mistakes, it was a great opportunity to suck it up and finally go even if I knew from past experience that it was probably going to be full of mistakes. Even if my main is currently a restoration druid, I’ve only been in Oculus before on my mage and never on heroic mode. This time I went on my druid and had to learn how to use the green drake. When we got to the last boss, I was quite intrigued at abilities that the green drake had and how they healed during the fight. Then it hit me that the way the green drake healed could actually make be a good inspiration for a future healing class in a future expansion.

The idea for the green drake healing mechanics isn’t really new. Warlocks do something similar when they heal their pets through health funnel and they use drain life to recover that health. But what if we turned this into a full fledged healing class mechanic that could hold their own with the likes of the other healers? I guess the idea is that the class has a bunch of leeching spells and abilities that damage the enemy and heals the caster. Then the caster has a variety of ways to transfer his own health to other people and probably even amplify that for bigger heals.

I was thinking of a class like the priest who can dps and heal well if specced the right way. As a dps role, this class would hold its own in the damage department and healing potential of this class in this role would be nothing more than any off-specced healing class. But as a healer this class takes a penalty in its damage potential in exchange for bigger self healing potential and the ability to transfer health to other people more efficiently. Maybe we could have talents that increase the amount of health transferred for the same amount of health lost, like a sort of modified improved life tap.

It’s still just an idea and I thought up earlier so no real details have really been worked out. One thing I can see is that since this class needs to attack to be able to leech health, how will +hit affect the class? Maybe as a healer you can avoid the need for +hit by taking a big penalty to the damage they can do but remaining awesome with heals. It sounds like a nice concept to get to work on though since it’s different. What do you guys think? From a conceptual level, is this a class you’d be interested in playing?
