Midsummer Fire Festival ‘09 Starts

The Midsummer Fire Festival has already started after quite a long break of not having any world events. It’s pretty good too especially since we had that madness of having Noblegarden and Children’s Week coming one after after other and in fact intersecting for a few days. In a way it’s nice to see people finally get back into the groove of participating in the latest world event, even if it’s just for achievements and cool stuff. But there’s just something about the Midsummer Fire Festival that just doesn’t get me excited to participate in it.

For one thing, the concept of going all over the place just to honor the flames of your faction’s towns and extinguishing the flames of the town of the other faction just seems a bit boring. Stealing the flames from the capital cities would seem like a fun thing if you actually get to do it. Just hope you’re lucky and you don’t die on the way in or out. If you’re really out of luck, you might even have several people guarding the flame when you try to get it. So this could be fun but could also really stink.
Ahune the Frost Lord might have been pretty cool when it was the days of TBC but now there really aren’t many reasons to get excited about this encounter. The fact that they didn’t provide a level 80 encounter for this guy gives a lot of people less and less reasons to do this at all. Before people did him for the loot but now he’s merely one achievement to cross out from the list unless you’re level 70. The fact that they didn’t make a level 80 encounter for Ahune isn’t inspiring news for people who are hoping the Brewfest Boss in BRD and the Headless Horseman will have level 80 versions
Then there’s that blasted torch juggling thing. There’s a reason I gave up on that as early as last year when I actually tried to give a damn and got annoyed. I’m not even going to touch that with a 10 foot pole. Since that’s part of the meta achievement to get the Flame Warden/Flame Keeper title, I’m not going to get it. Now you see why I’m not so enthusiastic about this event. If not for the achievements, there wouldn’t be much reason to participate and even that is a bit shaky.
As always though, I know that there are a lot of people who enjoy this event so if you’re one of them then happy Midsummer Fire Festival to you!
