Necromancer Class? Probably Not

Zavex from the Cenarion Circle realm says he’s been playing Warcraft 3 a lot lately and thinks that the Necromancer is a core class missing from Warcraft lore and would be nice to include th class in the game. As I would have expected, Blizzard CM Nethaera shot the idea down for now.
We have many interesting classes that we could implement, but like all things, we needed to decide which classes would be the most interesting and capable of being robust additions to the game from the start. The Necromancer is one class that has been in consideration before. Who knows. Perhaps someday the Necromancer will come into play within the World of Warcraft, but that is something for the future to decide. Source
If I were to interpret that response right, I’d have to say that it’s a “most probably not” at best. If it were, there’s really good reason not to have one. First of all a necromancer would be too close to a warlock to make a real distinction between skills to make a class that’s unique from the rest of the classes in the game. Like the warlock, a necromancer would be an advocate of the dark arts and would also be a minion based class. The only thing that would separate a necromancer from a warlock would be the ability to raise the dead and turn them into minions. This brings me to my second point.
If raising the dead would be the necromancer’s unique ability, it would be extremely difficult to work that out in the game. The reason why the necromancer was a viable class in Diablo 2 was the fact that the hero fights multiple enemies at once and they die a lot faster and with much more ease that in WoW. For this reason, it wasn’t hard at all to find a corpse to raise or blow up using corpse explosion while playing. Finding a corpse to raise in WoW reliably would be a pain in the rear. Even if you were to say that you could store this raising power in portable reagents for future use, then that would look very very much like a warlock’s soul shard wouldn’t it?
Besides, with the Death Knight hero class coming in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion I think it’s about time we steer clear of more of the “evil” classes.

Wrath Of The Lich King! XD
I think the necromancer has been introduced after all, because the unholy specc of the death knight has all the above abilities and more
Yeah there’s no way a necromancer class would be introduced now since between the warlock and the death knight there just isn’t any room. The DK is probably the closest we’ll get to it with the ability to raise dead occasionally and explode corpses.
you people aren’t thinking right. the necromancer would be a hero class with a few shadow melee attack and one long charge time threat causing ranged attack. the rest of the abilities would be summoning minions and there would be at level 80 about 20 different summoning minions. you could control all the minions at once as a race. or each separately. you could equip them with Armour and when it dies that gets put into a equipment slot for your next summoning. the necromancer would have life energy which would be a white mana used to make minions useful( but necromancers have more life energy then other class has mana). but instead of using life energy to summon them it will cost health and there will be a death block that will almost act as a health stopper which will be activated for the amount of health you lost while summoning. this can easily be removed with a ability that you get in the “Death” spec but this will force you to wait for your health to regenerate because it degenerates at your health regenerate rate. ( this is so that you don’t just keep healing and summoning minions till you have an army) you can have up to X minions of each kind and a total of 10 up at the same time(this stays the same for all levels) there will be some for ranged combat some for melee some buffers, some de-buffers, some healers and some mounts. and some more that will remain miscellaneous. thus there will be a few minor healing ability but this will be all about minion combat. and you could just summon minions from the ground without a corpse. this is very rough but i think there should be a “life” spec a “death” spec and a combat spec. life spec would focus on your life energy and healing and such. death spec would be about lessening your death block and the health cost for summoning. and combat spec is all about increasing your melee capabilities. all three of them will have their own special minions for different things increasing the number of minions. this is a very general idea but this would be my ideal necromancer. and there would be a Cerberus form for druids that would mimick the necromancer but it would be quite a bit weaker.

oh ya and they would be restricted to cloth armour. no leather or otherwise.
