On The Oracles and Frenzyheart Tribe

Wrath of the Lich King no longer has the prominence of two opposing factions who players must choose to align with like the Aldor and the Scryers in the Burning Crusade expansion, both of which were major players in the whole story. When you go around the neutral capital of Dalaran, there’s still a sense of being excluded from certain areas because of your faction but that’s because of the plain old Alliance-Horde rivalry.
In Sholazar Basin, you find a smaller sense of faction rivalry where players will ultimately have to choose who to align themsleves with. It’s Aldor versus Scryers lite to put it simply. The Oracles are a group of murloc-like people native to the basin and are actually a pretty peace loving bunch of guys as they’ve tried to settle their differences with the Frenzyheart Tribe and failed. The Frenzyheart Tribe is a group of wolf like people or “puppy men” as the Oracles call them and they’re in the basin to hunt.
At first glance, the reputation rewards look pretty equal as far as gear and profession recipes are concerned. The epic quality trinket that you can get at exalted differ with the oracles giving some crit and regen to mana/rage/energy/runic power when you kill something that gives honor or experience while the Frenzyheart tribe gives haste and increased damage for a certain duration when you kill something that gives honor or experience. What makes the the factions very different is object that you can buy from them at revered reputation.
Both factions allow you purchase an item from them at revered rep where you have to wait 7 days to see what you get. The Frenzyheart’s Disgusting Jar can turn into some nice consumables that can be useful while raiding or doing 5 mans. The Oracles’ Mysterious Egg can turn into social pets and even an epic flying mount. For me, it only seems like the Frenzyheart got the shaft because the oracles can get a flying mount and they don’t get anything as cool. But if you think about it, if you really would rather have consumables that can be useful to you while playing rather than social pets then the Frenzyhearts have the upper hand in your eyes. In this sense, assuming all the other things are equal or at least negligible then the choice between the Oracles and the Frenzyheart comes down to what you get a kick out of more – Consumables or cool social pets or a chance to get a mount? What do you feel is more important?

The difference with these ‘competing’ factions is that you don’t have to gain rep exclusively, nor do you have to be hated with one and loved by the other. You can kill a seer I believe and ’switch’ factions without losing the ’stored’ faction rep with the other. wowwiki describes it in more detail and I haven’t done it myself but some of my guildies do the dailies for oracles, then ’switch’ and do the dailies for frenzyheart, and switch back and forth each day, allowing them to reach exalted with both at the same time.
I’ve never really bothered that much with the factions in Burning Crusade, only building up rep with one of them….I think it’s the Scryers, I can’t even remember without checking!
In terms of rewards, for me as a fairly casual WoW player, an extra mount would be seen as a good reward, especially now that you can effectively “collect” mounts and then use a random macro when mounting up, so you actually get to go through using them.
