Ghostcrawler talks more on Cata soul shards

When the Cataclysm expansion announcement came out at last year’s Blizzcon, they also announced a revamp of the soul shard system for Warlocks. The idea is that soul shards will turn into a resource like Death Knight runes rather than the tangible reagent for spells that it currently is now. In line with this change is also the announcement of a new warlock ability called Soul Burn, which uses shards to augment certain warlock abilities in some way. This will definitely make warlocks more interesting to play and will make soul shards more involved in the regular rotation rather than …read more
Clarification on recent Arena points wipe
January 29, 2010 by Angelo Fernandez

During the recent maintenance on January 26, players found themselves without their hard earned Arena points. The reasoning for the wipe was that the new Arena season was intended to come out this week but as you know it didn’t and the points were mistakenly wiped anyway. Arena points are wiped at the start of every new season but the new season was delayed because it needed data from the new minor patch 3.3.2 to start and it just wasn’t ready yet this week.
So a point wipe is indeed coming but not just yet. So until then, everyone who has …read more

In the translated version of the Korean patch 3.3.2 notes that got out the other day, there was an entry about the Ashen Verdict finally giving out another set of rings for Strength dominant dps. Well CM Zarhym made on post on the forums the other day about the stats of said rings. Does this give more credence to the Korean patch notes which we have yet to see released officially? Maybe and maybe not so read into it however you wish.
Below are the stats of the rings as posted by CM Zarhym:

No more pitying fools… for now

Not too long ago, Blizzard launched two new World of Warcraft advertisements featuring Mr. T and his Night Elf Mohawk. It was an interesting idea for an advertisement because it had coordination inside the game. Players could actually talk to a Night Elf Mohawk NPC, who gives you Mohawk Grenades to use on other players to give them the Mohawk hair as well.
According to CM Ancilorn of WoW-EU (English), the Night Elf Mohawk’s work is done for now and has packed up and left. With everybody busy with the patch 3.3 content, especially progressing through Icecrown Citadel, it’s probably about …read more

A few weeks ago some changes were announced for the dungeons Ahn’kahet: Old Kingdom, Nexus and CoT: Culling of Stratholme. These changes, while some can be viewed as nerfs, are really aimed to make dungeons runs faster. Along these same lines, some changes to other dungeons are coming when the next minor patch hits.
MMO Champion managed to get hold of a translated version of the Korean version of the patch 3.3.2 notes and listed there are a few more changes to other dungeons meant to speed up runs a bit more.

Blizzard wants to tone down all the AE

One of the most stunning things I noticed about the Wrath of the Lich King expansion when it first came out was the complete disregard for crowd control in 5 man dungeons and how tanks would just take on groups and groups of mobs without much problem, turning the run into one big Area of Effect (AE) fest. Anyone who ran dungeons back in the Vanilla WoW days would know that CC was very important and even back in the TBC days, it was still being used quite a bit.
While talking about prot warrior dps, Ghostcrawler managed to sneak in …read more
Idea for Hunter Ammo change in Cataclysm
January 24, 2010 by Angelo Fernandez

Aside from the different new features and changes that we’re going to experience when the Cataclysm expansion hits, two classes are going to get changes to important class mechanics. Warlocks are getting a change to the soul shard system while Hunters are getting a change for their resource from mana to Focus, while also removing the need for consumable ammunition. This much was announced before and that’s the extent of what we know.
Ghostcrawler reminds us that all they announced was that ammunition will not be consumable. This leaves us some room to speculate what that means exactly. it could mean …read more
Cataclysm lore connection to SFK, Deadmines

When the Cataclysm expansion was announced at last year’s Blizzcon, one of the things among the many that were announced as features was the inclusion of heroic versions of classic dungeons. At first the notion of being able to do dungeons like Scarlet Monastery and even Ragefire Chasm on heroic mode was quite appealing so I was a bit disappointed to know that only Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep will have heroic modes by the release of the expansion. I think the understanding is that they could add more classic dungeons into the mix later on (and by this, it could …read more
Upcoming Resilience change announced

It’s currently that time between Arena seasons and all you Arena participants are taking a forced break. Blizzard is taking advantage of this time off to apply a change to the effects of Resilience, which is expected to be hotfixed before the start of the new season. Resilience is definitely more of a PvP stat but it does have some effect even in PvE. For those who don’t know, Resilience has several effects: reduces the chance to receive a critical strike, reduces the effect of mana drain spells, reduces the damage taken from critical strikes, and reduces damage received from …read more
On Limited Attempts in Icecrown Citadel
January 20, 2010 by Angelo Fernandez

When I was writing about the raid access progression for Icecrown Citadel, we talked about the limited attempts for certain bosses. It’s certainly not a new idea since Trial of the Grand Crusader had it too. The only difference is that in ToC, the limited attempts was only optional as far getting the better loot is concerned while in ICC, there is no option. When Blizzard first came out with the announcement to have limited attempts for the ICC bosses, I had an idea of how it worked but there were still some points that needed clarification. It turns out …read more
