Past/Future You Is A Dumbass!

As a new player first encountering the Wyrmrest Accord, you’ll notice that all the ambassadors of the green, black and bronze dragonflights are there to give you quests. It’s a nice practice of showing what each dragonflight stand for while also gaining reputation for the whole accord, showing that the accord is really an alliance working together.

Chromie is the ambassador for the bronze dragonflight is my current favorite member of the accord since players have a past history with her and I just love gnomes even if I play the Horde. Chromie sends you off to the Bronze Dragonshrine in the quest Mystery of the Infinite where you have to defend the Hourglass of Eternity from attackers. You get quite a surprise when Future You shows up to help you. I get quite a kick about how he actually tells you to get better gear. Not surprisingly, when you hit 80, Chromie sends you back to do the same thing and you’re joined by Past You.

It’s definitely a cool concept and a very interesting quest since it also reveals something about a potential problem we might encounter some time in the future, perhaps in a future expansion. I’m sure with a lot of people in Northrend now, you know what I’m talking about but I still won’t spoil it for the new players.

My biggest pet peeve about this quest is the fact that it’s quite unfriendly and goofy for classes or specs that don’t use a melee weapon as their regular attack like casters and hunters. I’ve done that quest on both my mage and my druid and it really makes them look like a dumbass when they start bonking enemies with their staff or stabbing with a spell blade. I don’t know if melee classes get an advantage here since they’re past/future selves might attack harder than the ranged classes, but that’s all ok since I know this quest is really meant for your other you to provide a comic and story element and nothing really much more. But I just hate how they look goofy doing melee as ranged attackers! I wonder if they can change this so you can do your basic ranged attacks even if the damage isn’t accurate but just so it looks right.
