We’ve seen some of the changes coming for patch 3.1 (aka the Ulduar patch) when CM Eyonix posted the three part series on class changes a few weeks ago. But that wasn’t everything. The PTR patch notes for patch 3.1 are up and posted on MMO Champion and you can see a lot of other changes that weren’t listed before. The patch notes aren;t listed on the official site just yet but I’m sure they will be updated soon enough. When they do get updated, you can find the latest PTR patch notes here. For now you’ll have to find the stuff listed at MMO Champion through this link.
There some interesting changes that have been added to this patch that weren’t mentioned before. First of is that the cost of using the dual spec feature isn’t “free” or the cost of one respec. According to MMO Champion, it’s 1000g! First they make us spend 1000g for cold weather flying then they announce that dual spec will be only for level 80’s for now and then this! That’s a real downer for people leveling up to 80. Below are the changes listed that I find jumps at me more than others.
Druids get a nerf to the talent formerly known as improved Regrowth (now called Nature’s Bounty) where the regrowth crit chance increase has been reduced to 25% from 50%. They also get a talent called improved Barkskin where they get some pvp help in the form of increased damage reduction and dispel resistance when barkskin is up.
Hunters get a BM talent called Call Stabled pet where they can replace their current pet with a stabled one without going to a stable as long as you’re not in combat. This is great especially if you want a different pet for a different fight or if you’re just too lazy to go to a stable. Surv hunters get a new talent called Black Arrow which if used, all your damage done to the target is increased by 6% and also applying a shadow damage DoT.
Mages get a new polymorph spell where they can turn targets into rabbits! Sometimes I wonder how we survived with just sheep back then. Locks get a lot of changes but the one I find quite surprising is the removal of Demonic Sacrifice! the Suppression talent now increases +hit for all spells so this should help even those non-affliction locks who need to reach the hit cap. The disc talent was nerfed so that you only get mana back from absorbed power word: shield, making this harder for disc priests to gain mana especially with the mana regen nerf coming.
That’s pretty much all I can comment on since I’m not exactly sure how the other changes affects the other classes. As with a major content patch, lots of major changes happen and this isn’t an exception. For those who are getting nice buffs, grats to you and too bad for those who got nerfed skills. As always, we move on with what we have been given and I’m sure patch 3.1 will still be cool because we get new content and dual specs even if it costs a lot.
