PvP and PvE Instance?

Lowlifescum from the Agamaggan – EU realm made a suggestion about an instance type that involves both PvP and PvE. Basically his idea is that two groups are paired off to enter the instance and go through the instance as normal but they meet at the room of the last boss and fight each other and the boss for his loot. It’s a race to the loot so if one group is ahead they get the last boss’ loot and the other group doesn’t.

CM Vaneras has these things to say.

On the idea’s potential

It does sound like a fun idea, so we can only hope that we might get to see such an instance some day in the future :-)

On balancing:

This would indeed be the largest challenge seen from the developers perspective, but I am sure it would be possible to think of some creative way of balancing such an encounter.

There are many problems I see with this idea mainly because PvE and PvP should ideally be kept separate. People with pure PvE or pure PvP builds would suffer in this type of situation. There’s a reason why protection warriors usually don’t do any PvP and having this kind of scenario would just suck for for people like this.

Also, PvE is all about learning the fights and taking the time to do them. This should never be a race at all except for trying not to get trash mob respawns. The pressure of thinking that the other group could have beat you to the loot isn’t the kind of pressure you would want while doing dungeons.

All in all, I think this idea just stinks. If you want some kind of combination of PvP and PvE then just do Alterac Valley!
