Race Change Service Coming

September 6, 2009 by Angelo Fernandez

Earlier this week Blizzard announced that their Faction Transfer service is finally up and running, which was slightly surprising considering it was thought that it wouldn’t be ready until at least patch 3.3. Considering that this Faction Transfer could technically allow you to change your race within the race faction by transferring to the opposite faction then transferring back and choosing a new race after the 60 day period has expired, it isn’t surprising at all that Blizzard decided to make this process easier eventually.

CM Nethaera confirmed that a paid Race change service will also be available in the future. This will allow players to switch races within the same faction as long as the class supports it. This is great news especially considering that there will be new class/race combinations coming in the Cataclysm expansion as well as the new races Goblin and Worgen. For those who want a Troll Druid, Gnome Priest, Tauren Paladin or one of those new combinations you could sweat out playing another race first and by the time the expansion comes out or at least by the time you’ll be allowed to switch to those races then you’ll be able to do it.

Somehow I doubt this service will be active during the time of the Cataclysm release, since it would make some Realm First achievements significantly easier to obtain. But we can hope.

I don’t have a doubt that they’ll restrict transfers into these combinations at least for a while, especially for the Goblins and the Worgens. But knowing that this service will be available means that if say you want a Tauren paladin, you could play a Blood Elf one now and just switch later on when the restrictions are dropped. This beats rerolling just to change your race unless you really want to start from scratch, especially to see the new Azeroth in the Xpac.
