We’re seeing more and more features that used to be offered only by addons get built into the game. We’ve seen things like the Equipment Manager, Threat Meter and even the upcoming “Quest Helper” get added to the game. In patch 3.2, we’re going to see a built in Gear Comparison feature that will make comparing gear easier by showing what stats you’ll be getting and losing if you take one piece of gear over another (as seen in this image from MMO Champion). Last month Blizzard released a new addon development policy to prevent the use of addons that charge money for players to use them. In fact the new policy also discourages the use of addons that ask for donations and if so must only be in a website and not in the game itself. With the release of patch 3.1 where all our addons went poof and are slowly rebuilding and getting updated versions, this new policy has probably taken some effect already with some addons not available for use any longer.
