Lead Encounter Designer Daelo recently got on the forums to make an announcement about Icecrown Citadel’s Raid Access Progression. If you’ve been following raids in the past, you would know that the concept of gating raid content is not new at all. For some raids, Blizzard doesn’t want players to have access to everything right from the start. We saw this done in Sunwell where players could gain access to further bosses only after a while when Blizzard unlocked them. We also saw this in Trial of the Crusader where new bosses were unlocked week after week.

If you’ve seen the previews of the two Icecrown Citadel dungeons (the 5 man dungeon and the raid dungeon) that’s coming out in patch 3.3, you’ll know that players won’t be raiding that place alone. One of the things that makes the encounters sound and probably will be epic is that players will be fighting alongside known heroes. This is the very thing that made the Battle for Undercity quest very special even if it’s something that can be soloed.
For some people, getting the gear and having fun with the boss encounters in dungeons are all they probably care about. …read more

Just the other day Blizzard released information about the Frozen Halls, which is the 5 man dungeon within the Icecrown Citadel grounds coming out in patch 3.3. Based on the descriptions, the whole thing looks pretty epic especially for a 5 man dungeon. Epic is something expected for the raid dungeon, which we now know will be called the Frozen Throne. but based on the information that was just released it seems like it could be even more interesting and epic even for raid standards – something befitting someone like the Lich King considering the player cap restrictions.

The Icecrown Citadel has always been a curious place for me and probably also for a lot of other people. Being the Lich King’s lair, I always tend to wonder not only what Blizzard has in store for us in terms of fight designs but also who and what we might find inside. Ever since we first saw the Citadel in he game, it’s been just there for us to see but not much else, teasing us and making us wonder what lies beyond that awesome facade.
Well some info was just released about the 5 man dungeon that will be …read more

We have yet to see patch 3.3 which will bring us the final installment of the Wrath of the Lich King story but we can already say with conviction that Blizzard has learned from their lesson with Illidan in The Burning Crusade. In TBC, only a small percentage of the players really got to see Illidan and also the bigger baddie Kil’jaeden because you had to be a raider to see them and how they fit in with the whole story. In Wrath of the Lich King, players get to see the Lich King in various stages of the leveling …read more

With the recent release of patch 3.2 it’s now officially ok to talk about patch 3.3 and the Icecrown Citadel. Besides, there’s really something mind blowing that was released about the Citadel anyway. As you all know, the Icecrown Citadel is the lair of the Lich King and will be the venue for players to raid when patch 3.3 comes out. Based on what Blizzard has said before, the Citadel will have a raid dungeon and a 5 man dungeon (much like how Ulduar is composed of the raid that was released in patch 3.1 and the 5 man dungeons …read more
