Paid Faction Transfer Service Now Available

Blizzard shocked the World of Warcraft community when they announced that they will be offering a paid faction transfer service. It was something that a lot of players have been asking for so that they can play with friends in the other faction or would just want a change of scenery. But it was also something that a lot of people considered a bridge Blizzard never cross.

Well it’s been announced and players have been resigned to it and just when everyone seems to have mellowed down about this issue, Blizzard shocks the community a bit more by releasing the service sooner than what a lot of people expected. You look at the forums right now and you’ll see that a lot of people expected this by cataclysm or at least by patch 3.3, not now.

Yes the paid faction transfer service is here and you can see the FAQ about this through this link. here are a few basic things to know about the faction transfer.

# The service will cost $30 per transaction (not including any applicable taxes)
# This service will be available to characters level 10 and above. Death Knights will have to reach level 60 before they can switch factions.
# When the faction change is complete, the character can choose any race from the other faction that is available to that character’s class. (no blood elf paladins turning into gnome paladins, sorry)
# 60 days after purchasing a faction change, you’re eligible to purchase another one. If you switch back to your original faction (meaning paying for another one), you can choose any race available to your class and not just your original race.
# Everything not related to your faction will be unchanged by this process. Those that are faction related could be changed or even removed. check the FAQ for more details.
# An example of the above: All Argent Tournament reputation will be reset by availing of this service.

Paid Character Transfer Cooldown Reduced

You could tell the game has really come a long way when you’re getting revisions to a service that allows you to do something that couldn’t be done back in the day. Back in the day there was no such thing as a paid character transfer or a name change or character customization. Now we have all those and we’ll even have the faction switching service sometime in the future.

I remember when Blizzard first allowed the paid character transfer service, the cooldown was something like 6 months. To go from that to 30 days was already something. but then Blizzard recently decided to reduce the cooldown even further, making it just 3 days now! Now if you realize that you picked the wrong server and want to go back to your old one or go to a different one, you don’t need to wait a whole month suffering from a bad decision.

One thing I’m thinking of about this though is that perhaps the number of people who do some mischief and then leaving the server will increase even more with a change like this. Still this change is great to have.

Paid Faction Transfers in the Future

Blizzard stunned the World of Warcraft community by dropping a bombshell on us all. It’s one of those announcements that would make sense if it were April Fools but sadly it’s not. Blizzard announced that they’re working on a service that will allow players to switch factions. this means that for a fee, players will be able to go from Alliance to Horde or Horde to Alliance. This is so shocking since this was one of the things Blizzard has repeatedly said in the past that they wouldn’t allow.

According to CM Nethaera, this service is going to be made available because of several requests by the players mostly because they have characters that are on opposite factions from their friends. I’m curious how they will be able to reconcile all the factors that go with a faction transfer. How are they going to deal with reputation levels for example? Let’s say you’re a Human priest who’s exalted with Stormwind and Ironforge, how will that translate when you become an Blood Elf priest?

Another thing I want to touch on is this. Providing a faction transfer service should mean that you can choose what race you want to become in the opposite faction (unless of course you’re a druid or a horde shaman who wants to go to the Alliance or an Alliance paladin who wants to go to the Horde). It would really suck if you get assigned a race instead of choosing one yourself. That would lead to more problems. So assuming that you can choose your race when you switch factions and since we already have a service that can switch your character’s gender, wouldn’t it only be logical that this service should extend to switching races within your faction? Race switching within your faction is a smaller leap than a faction switch. If such is the case, then I know that a lot of people who would like to avail of the service because they’re tired of being a certain race.

What do you think will happen, more Alliance switching to Horde or more Horde switching to Alliance?
