Trip down memory lane

There are times when I stop and realize that I’ve been playing World of Warcraft for so long now and yet I still remember the day I started playing back in February or March of 2005. Having been around since the early days, I’ve seen and experienced a lot of the many changes that’s been implemented in the game to make it better. But that also means that I’ve seen how things used to be.
I’m taking a trip down memory lane and listing a few things that would bring nostalgia to players who’ve been playing as early as I have or even earlier. Through the good and the bad we went through it all. For those people who weren’t around in these times, it’s a nice way to learn about how things were.

orgrimmar auction house
1. Remember when only Orgrimmar and Ironforge were the only major cities that had the faction auction house?
I used to despise playing my Night Elf alts back then because a trip to the auction house (at least for the first time) meant crossing the Wetlands and get eaten alive by mean crocs. Humans could just take the tram. Taurens would have to cross the Barrens but that wasn’t as bad an issue as Night Elves had.
2. Remember when it used to be so much harder to travel to certain spots because they didn’t have flight paths there yet?
I’m talking about places like Ratchet, Camp Taurajo and even the Alliance camp in northern STV (Rebel Camp I think is what it’s called). If you wanted to get to Camp Taurajo you had to walk all the way from the Crossroads!
3. Don’t kill the civilians!
That’s what you’d hear very often when you’re raiding an enemy town back in the day when dishonorable kills were still around. Basically this would have a negative effect to not only your honor points but for the whole group. Players would get really mad when someone would kill a civilian back in the day.
4. Runecloth turn ins
Well this wasn’t changed at all but it isn’t really done that much anymore. Before the Argent Tournament, this was pretty much the only way to get exalted with your faction and other factions especially if you wanted an epic mount from another race. People used to turn these in like mad back in the day!
5. The original 10 man runs
Before the days of Karazhan, Zul’aman and even the 10 man WoTLK raid dungeons in 10 man version, there was the 10 man Blackrock Depths, 10 man Scholomance and the 10 man Stratholme runs. These runs were pretty much a joke because these dungeons were meant for 5 people. 10 man Stratholme dead side was probably the easiest to do especially with 10 people. Eventually they put a player cap of 5 for these dungeons. The same thing was done to Blackrock Spire, which was capped at 10 instead of the original 15.
6. Flight path and warlock pets didn’t mix
One of the things that I hated while playing one of my old warlock alts back in the day was that the minion would just vanish when you take a flight path and you wouldn’t get a shard refund. So when you landed you’d have to use up another shard just to summon it again. Eventually we did get that shard refund and then it became what it is now where the lock pet doesn’t really go away so the pet reappears when you land.
