To need or to greed, that is the question. At that it is when loot drops and you’re in a group. Of course there’s the pass option but I have a feeling that it won’t be used as often when patch 3.3 comes out. The patch 3.3 updated PTR notes has one very interesting entry about a disenchant option that goes together with Need and Greed.
If it works the way I think it does then groups no longer need their resident disenchanter to disenchant unwanted loot but the game will do it for them using the Disenchant option. While some of you enchanters might feel bad about this since that leaves out one reason to bring you for groups, I have to say that groups bring you for what your class brings to the table, not the professions you have. Besides, I always thought that having to disenchant all that stuff is just extra work.
According to the patch notes, the Disenchant option will have the same priority as a Greed roll. This means that a Need roll trumps both Greed and a Disenchant roll. If a player who chose Disenchant wins the Greed roll, that player will receive the disenchanted materials instead.
It’s actually a great feature that will only help us all if you look at the big picture. How many times have you run raids and wish that there was a disenchanter in the group so you can get useful enchanting mats instead of having to vendor that unwanted item that you won.\? This is the end of that nonsense!
