Stephen Strasburg may have trouble staying healthy, however the superstar prospect for the Washington Nationals doesn’t have trouble living up to expectations. In his first start in a year a following Tommy John surgery on his elbow, Strasburg pitched five shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.
During those five innings, he gave up only two hits while striking out four batters and walking no one. In all, Strasburg threw 56 pitches in his return to the big league level.
Perhaps the best news for Strasburg and the Nationals is the fact that his stuff looked amazing. His fastball was in the high 90s. His secondary pitches were nasty. In short, Stephen Strasburg looked like Stephen Strasburg.
Before getting hurt last season, the 6-foot-4 right-hander was 5-3 in 12 starts with a 2.91 ERA and 92 strikeouts in only 68 innings of work. On Tuesday, the world saw no reason why Strasburg can’t make it all the way back — and perhaps even better than he was before.
