rick-barryRick Barry recently talked exclusively with EveryJoe.com about “The Breakaway” shoes — Ektio’s second shoe release. The Ektio shoes have been created by Dr. Barry Katz to specifically protect the ankles of basketball players.

Barry, the NBA Hall of Famer, endorses the shoes — and he’s not shy about singing its praises. When we asked him how many points he would average in today’s league if these shoes were available to him when he was young, his reply was straightforward.

“Thirty-plus points,” Barry responded.

Considering that no player in the NBA averages 30 points, that’s quite a statement.

“The Breakaway” shoes not only claim to prevent ankle injuries, they make ankle braces obsolete. Reviews on Amazon.com and elsewhere are very strong and many ballers swear by the Ektio brand of shoes.

rick-barry-warriorsBarry is best known for his days spent with the Golden State Warriors and he’s still very close to the organization. Stephen Curry, Golden State’s star point guard, has battled ankle injuries since entering the NBA. Has Barry talked to Curry about the Ektio shoes?

“No but he and his people know about the shoe,” Barry explained. “He has a contract with a major shoe company that prevents him from wearing another brand. Too bad for him because this shouldn’t be about money; it is about his career.”

In addition to ankle safety, reports point to “The Breakaway” shoes helping basketball players shoot better by providing a more stable foundation. Ektio’s stats are startling: 42% of their customers say their shoes “definitely” improved their shooting accuracy, while 67% of their customers report at least a slight increase in their ability to shoot.

Barry has four sons who have played at a high level of basketball — three of which have played in the NBA (Brent Barry, Jon Barry and Drew Barry). We had to ask him whether there are any other Barry ballers in the basketball pipeline.

“I have a son, Canyon, at the College of Charleston who redshirted this year and will begin his career this fall. He has a chance to be a very good player,” Barry told us.

We’ll be on the lookout for Canyon Barry making in big in the basketball world. And if you’re a basketball player with glass ankles, “The Breakaway” by Ektio may be just what you’re looking for in a shoe.
