No one really knows what this upcoming superhero movie is going to be called but we do know who will be playing the iconic characters. The internet has gone crazy with news of Ben Affleck being cast as Batman in the upcoming film that will pit the Caped Crusader against the Man of Steel.
Some people are freaking out but, really, this makes a lot of sense. There’s no way that someone like Christian Bale could come back for a movie like this. He’s too dark and edgy and serious. We needed someone who could fill out the suit and still be able to pull off some light comic-book based cheesy banter.
Sure, you could hold DareDevil against him (I personally liked it) but look at the width of those shoulders and the slim waist – he was born to play this kind of role. He will be the eighth person to don the suit and, surely, no one can say he’s going to be worse than George Clooney (I try to scrub his portrayal out of my mind).
Warner Bros. president, Greg Silverman, said: “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some.”
You can’t argue either that, after the success of Argo and his recognition during this past awards season, Affleck isn’t hot. He’s on fire right now and, hopefully, that will be translated into his acting on the big screen.
Zack Snyder will return to his directing duties for the Man of Steel sequel which will star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Diane Lane and will open on July 17, 2015.
The director added his own comments to the casting news: “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
This whole thing, and the potential for a future Justice League movie, just got more interesting.
