A small plane carrying seven people crashed early on Tuesday morning, killing everyone aboard. The group of people were returning to Bloomington, Indiana after attending the NCAA Basketball National Championship Game in Indianapolis on Monday night. The plane crashed into a field just outside its destination in foggy conditions.
Among the dead were Illinois State assistant basketball coach Torrey Ward, Scott Bittner (the owner of the plane) and Terry Stralow (an owner of a popular Bloomington bar). Though Bittner owned the plane, he wasn’t the pilot.
Ward, a father of two, was engaged to be married. He was a basketball star at UAB, who graduated in 2001. Ward went on to play professionally overseas and started coaching after his playing days were over. His last tweet on Monday featured a photo of the plane.
