Is it Christmas already? No? It sure feels like it. Yeah, Star Wars fans treat May the Fourth like a holiday but who knew we’d actually get something great today? Vanity Fair has done an extensive photoshoot from the set of the new Star Wars film with Annie Leibovitz behind the lens. The images have been revealed and, really, it’s all pretty glorious.

First, we got a glimpse at Girls star, Adam Driver, along with confirmation that he will be portraying Kylo Ren. The magazine describes him as a “next-generation bad guy” who “commands snowtroopers loyal to the evil First Order on the frozen plains of their secret base.” Aww yeah!

Also revealed in Vanity Fair is a picture of Lupita Nyong’o's gorgeous face covered in dots as she will be portraying a CGI villain named Maz Kanata. In more female Star Wars news, we finally got a glimpse of the glorious Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma. She will undoubtedly bring the same fierceness to this role as she does as Brienne of Tarth on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

The whole thing will be part of a Vanity Fair cover story which will be released on May 7, 2015. In the meantime, you can get more information and check out the photos over on VanityFair.com. The cool video below provides a small idea of what it’s like to be on the set of such an epic film but also reminds us of why we love the franchise so much. The plot may unfold in a distant galaxy but we can still relate to the stories and characters.

The almost one-minute clip includes commentary from J.J. Abrams and shows Harrison Ford along with newcomers Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega.

Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18, 2015. So close, yet so far away!
