A back and forth battle continues between two 2016 presidential candidates with Rick Perry making a video response to Donald Trump, who had tweeted critically about the former Texas Governor on Sunday.
Perry had before criticized Trump for painting illegal immigrants “with a very broad brush,” after Trump depicted them all as criminals and rapists.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best,” said Trump. “They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”
Perry – who has run the state with the largest border with Mexico, and whose state shares a large part of its culture – took issue with Trump’s statements, saying: “I don’t think he’s reflecting the Republican party with his statements about Mexicans. I think that was a huge error on his part.”
This prompted Trump to tweet this:
Rick Perry failed at the border. Now he is critical of me. He needs a new pair of glasses to see the crimes committed by illegal immigrants.

Perry, never content to take a hit without giving one in return, created a short video responding to Trump’s allegations of Perry’s weakness on the border, and throwing a few punches of his own.
In the video, Perry reminds Trump that Texas spent nearly $1 Billion on border security, including sending out Texas Ranger Recon teams, and also supplemented border guards with the Texas National Guard, resulting in a 74% decrease in apprehensions.
“I also know that your comments about Mexicans are offensive, and they don’t reflect the values of the Republican party. Mexican-Americans have been part of the fabric of Texas from the very beginning, and have fought on behalf of our state and our country from the Alamo to Afghanistan,” he said, going on the offensive.
“Otherwise, your remarks might make for good reality TV, but they’re way out of touch with reality,” Perry added.
This is the second time recently that Rick Perry has shown concern when it comes to minorities, as Perry spent a good deal of time talking about the plight of the black community in his last campaign speech.
