According to reports from The Telegraph, a gunman of “North-African origin” wielding an AK-47 attempted to shoot up the Amsterdam-Paris train near Arras, France. The suspect managed to injure three people, two of which are critically wounded.

The gunman would have done worse, but for the interference of three American Marines who happened to be on the train.

According to the report, French actor Jean-Hugues Anglade raised the alarm after hearing what sounded like a gun being loaded from the bathroom. This prompted the Marines to take action. While they tried to restrain him, the shooter managed to hit two people, and wounded a third.

While the gunman’s identity is still unknown, officials say that he is a 26-year-old Moroccan. No motive has been revealed yet, but counter-terrorist police have taken over the investigation.
