Former Speaker Newt Gingrich has admitted that GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump’s foreign policy platform appears necessary in light of the terrorist attacks in Brussels that left 34 dead and around 200 wounded. During an appearance on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria,” Gingrich claimed that Trump foresaw events like the tragedy in Brussels unfolding at a time when his opponents dismissed him as “stupid.”

“Well, tragically, I think that the attacks in many ways validated Donald Trump’s entire candidacy,” Gingrich told host Maria Bartiromo. He then cited a column by Piers Morgan in which the former CNN host defended Trump’s controversial stance on dealing with Muslim immigrants after seeing the carnage in Brussels unfold.

Gingrich went on to praise Trump’s ability to interpret the facts. “One of his strengths is to read the obvious. He’s a bit like Reagan in that sense,” Gingrich said. “He looked out, he saw that many of the people who perpetrated the Paris atrocities, many of them had come from Brussels. He knew that the Maelbeek area of Brussels, in fact, had been heavily infiltrated by terrorists.”

“He has business friends who go to and from the European Union in Brussels, and his business friends are saying to him, ‘it’s out of control.’ So he reports the obvious, everybody else thinks he’s stupid because he’s the only one saying it. And now here we are several months later saying, ‘Donald Trump was right,” Gingrich added.

The former House leader took the opportunity to blast Clinton. “You have Hillary Clinton, who was on a little while ago on videotape saying, ‘we shouldn’t have leaders who tell us to be afraid,’” he said. “Well, how do you watch Brussels and not have some sense of fear? I think she sounds almost like she’s in a fantasy world that doesn’t connect to reality… Hillary Clinton was totally wrong. It makes you question her connectivity to the real world.”
