Princeton’s human resource department issued a 4-page memo encouraging gender-inclusive language and the avoidance of gender-based words in both writing and speaking. These kinds of PC directives aren’t unusual on college campuses these days, but it seems that the Ivy League school is taking it to the extreme.
Not only are changes such as businessman to businessperson on the list, but words such as forefathers, freshman and man-made are listed as “don’t use.”
I get it that they are trying to create all-inclusive safe spaces, but when will it ever end? Calling a freshman a “first-year student” seems ridiculous to me.
