Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein seemed to have been trying to help Hillary Clinton get a second chance at victory by securing a statewide recount in Michigan, but the only fraud she has uncovered took place in Detroit’s Wayne County – which Hillary overwhelmingly carried.
In 248 of Detroit’s 662 precincts, the number of people who cast a vote was surpassed by the number of votes counted, The Detroit News reported. This means that voter fraud could have taken place in up to 37 percent of Detroit, an alarming figure that has prompted election officials to plan an audit.
State officials will focus their investigation on about 20 Detroit precincts whose vote totals do not add up. According to Elections Director Chris Thomas, the operating assumption is that human error was to blame for the discrepancy, but no conclusion has been reached.
Clinton garnered 66.8 percent of the vote in Wayne County for a total of 517,022 votes, while Trump secured just 29.5 percent, or 228,313 votes. Trump carried the state by just 10,704 votes, but the new report suggests that widespread voting irregularities in a heavily blue county could have skewed the figure against the president-elect.
Stein attracted millions of dollars in donations when she promised to demand recounts in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The Wisconsin effort only ended up handing Trump roughly 120 new votes, while efforts in Wisconsin and Michigan were eventually halted by judges.
