Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) might have to queue up some more crocodile tears after finding himself on the receiving end of a classic Trump takedown, with the president telling a jam-packed arena of rallygoers that the Democratic head honcho is nothing but a “bad leader” who is “leading the Democrats to doom.”
Trump, who spent his 100th day in office talking directly to the people of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, instead of schmoozing with D.C. elite at the White House Correspondents Dinner, did not mince words when it comes to Schumer.
“Unfortunately, Democrats in Congress have no leadership, they are rudderless,” he said. “Senator Schumer is a bad leader. I’ve known him a long time, Senator Schumer is a bad leader, not a natural leader at all. He works hard to study leadership… Well, if you have to study leadership, you’ve got problems.”
The president went on to question Schumer’s record when it comes to protecting American safety, an area in which Schumer has faced repeated criticisms due to his soft stance on illegal immigration and his obstructionist efforts toward the Trump administration’s law-and-order agenda.
“His policies are hurting innocent Americans and making it easier for drug dealers to enter our country. Schumer is weak on crime and wants to raise your taxes through the roof,” Trump declared. “He is a poor leader and he is leading the Democrats to doom.”
Schumer was certainly not the only politician to get a tongue lashing from Trump, who chastised congressional Democrats for threatening a government shutdown to prevent his administration from securing funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall.
“If the Democrats knew what the hell they were doing, they would approve it so fast, as we want to stop crime in our country,” Trump said, adding that there is a “simple choice” between aiding American citizens or Mexican drug cartels.
