A young man in Italy was slaughtered by the 15-year-old son of a notorious local mob boss after daring to “like” a Facebook photo of the young mobster’s girlfriend. According to local media reports, Alex Pititto led Francesco Prestia Lamberti, 19, to an olive field before shooting him twice in the chest and leaving him to die.
Pititto, whose father is Ndrangheta mafia boss Salvatore Pittio – also known as El Tio or the Uncle – took umbrage over what he perceived as a major slight when his longtime friend Lamberti liked one of his girlfriend’s posts. Taking it as a sign that Lamberti had developed feelings for the girl, Pittito hatched a plan to murder him before any romantic feelings could develop.
On his own Facebook, Pititto penned a cryptic post that seemed to hint at his nefarious plot: “Friendship is in my mouth to many but in the heart of few.”
The shocking murder took place in Mileto, Italy. Pititto turned himself into police after becoming overwhelmed with guilt and led them to the olive grove where Lamberti’s body lay. He now faces life in prison in relation to the crime.
Pititto will likely join his father, mother, brother and cousin behind bars, all four of whom were arrested earlier this year after the police carried out a far-reaching sting to counter rampant mafia operations in the area. The Ndrangheta mafia group alone has 6,000 members, most of whom are centered in Calabria.
The group mainly profits from extortion, drug smuggling, and money laundering, with their operations growing so vast that they comprised three percent of Italy’s GDP back in 2010. The Ndrangheta family first rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s and has remained a powerful force in Italy’s underground crime scene ever since.
