A pistol-packing granny from Texas whose home was invaded by two men armed with firearms of their own managed to kill one of the intruders and send the other running for his life after she courageously opened fire, potentially protecting herself and her neighbors from harm.
The incident took place in the Sundown neighborhood of Katy, where the 60-year-old woman was home by herself when she suddenly heard the crooks breaking into her garage, ABC 13 reported.
“Both were armed with pistols,” said Deputy Thomas Gilliland of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. “She confronted both suspects, retrieved a handgun and fired several times at both suspects.”
One man was immediately killed while his accomplice fled, jumping a fence and sprinting toward a major road to the north of the victim’s home. Now, investigators are hoping to determine whether the culprits targeted the victim’s house specifically or if it was part of a string of robberies.
“From what we understand, it’s a rental home but there are several people who live in the home,” he added. “But this morning, she was by herself in the house.”
While some neighbors were devastated to hear that a grandmother was forced to shoot and kill an intruder, others warned potential criminals that they can expect a similar fate if they try to ransack someone else’s property.
“It’s just, you know what, in the state of Texas, if you’re gonna get on somebody’s property, you’re gonna get shot,” neighbor Catherine Hanks said. “That’s just the way we are, that’s Texas.”
No word has surfaced as to whether the grandmother will face any charges in relation to the shooting, with investigators claiming that it is too early to tell. The second suspect remains on the loose, and it is not clear whether he suffered any injuries in the shootout.
