The man behind the first two John Wick films is back, and he’s ready for action as filming is set to begin on the third installment of this unexpected hit franchise in March.
As reported by ThatHashtagShow, former stuntman turned director Chad Stahelski is returning to head John Wick 3 while other familiar faces from the most recent installment will be returning to populate the unique universe of hitmen and gold coins that caught the attention of the world when John Wick first premiered in October of 2014.
With actors Common, Lawrence Fishburne, and Ruby Rose all slated to reprise their roles from February 2017’s John Wick 2, additional roles announced include the new film’s antagonist, Hiroyuki Sanada playing the head of a Japanese crime syndicate, and an as-yet-to-be-cast leading lady to star opposite Keanu Reeves’ titular character.
Set to debut May 17, 2019 and with initial filming primarily set in New York but also due to occur in Russia and Spain, John Wick 3 will take a deep dive into the world first explored in the original film by focusing on, in the words of Stahelski speaking to EW.com, “the inner workings of New York…rather than massive set pieces, I’d like to show you cooler and more intricate ones.”
The first film having raked in a cool $88 million against a $20-30 million budget, and the second film more than doubling that total with $171.5 million in box office receipts against a $40 million budget, it’s no wonder John Wick is returning to the big screen soon, and I know I can’t wait!
