What to watch for next week

With the playoffs in full swing, I figured it would be a great time to hand out some hardware. Well, not really any hardware, more like just some words and awards. So, beginning next week, I will begin unveiling some end of the season awards, which will… well… highlight some of the not so great moments from the season. University of Virginia reverses ‘banned sign’ rule

On Aug. 20, I wrote a post in response to a Washington Post story that talked about the University of Virginia was banning any signs by fans to appear at sporting events. Today, Virginia has reversed that rule after students threatened to wear all blue instead of orange to an upcoming Cavaliers home football game. In that original post, I said I thought it was a good idea. However, it would be a better idea if they allowed students/fans to grab signs after they enter (give away blank poster boards), so they can better monitor the situation. Marcos Ambrose makes NASCAR history

Marcos Ambrose is making history in NASCAR. Ambrose will be joining JTG Daugherty Racing in 2009, becoming the first Australian to race full-time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Ambrose will drive the No. 47 Toyota Camry, co-owned by Tad and Jodi Geschickter and former NBA All-Star Brad Daugherty. Ambrose won his first NASCAR victory earlier this season at Watkins Glen. [Read more]

Speed and Menard make headlines in changes

On Tuesday, Scott Speed and Paul Menard made headlines after being announced as drivers on two Sprint Cup cars. Speed was rumored to take over for A.J. Allmendinger in the No. 84 Red Bull car and Tuesday it was finalized. Menard moves from DEI to Yates Racing and will bring over his Menards sponsorship. Menard was one of two drivers at DEI that had a full sponsor, but he will be taking that with him to Yates. Now, only Martin Truex, Jr. is left at DEI with a full sponsor. Menard has gone 68 career races with reaching the winner’s circle and posted only one top 10 finish in his career at DEI. Menard’s first race for Yates will be in 2009.
