Courtney Love Suing Activision
See? Sometimes you can actually learn interesting things when you read Perez Hilton.
This little shit storm was apparently aired all over Twitter when Courtney Love tweeted: WE are going to sue the shit out of ACtivision we being the Trust the Estate the LLC the various LLCs Cobain .”
Ms. Love claims that Activision didn’t have permission to use Cobain’s likeness for the avatar in Guitar Hero 5 and she wasn’t exactly calm with her tweets. Go through her twitter stream and you’ll have the pleasure [*snort*] of reading all about her anger and disgust in Activision’s general direction.
This is all very odd to me since in late August, Rolling Stone reported on Cobain joining the Guitar Hero 5 stable and had this to say about Cobain and Love and the whole process of adding Cobain to the game:
Naturally, Love did have some concerns.
Namely, Cobain’s physique, Riley reveals. “Courtney supplied us with photos and videos and knew exactly what she wanted Kurt to look like,” he says. “She picked the wardrobe and hair style, which turned out to be the ‘Teen Spirit’ look, then we went back and forth over changes — some subtle, some not so subtle.”
In column B? Love’s reference to the Greek God Adonis, whose youthful good looks made the male deity an object of desire. “She certainly had a physical image in mind,” says Riley. “She wanted him to have that sort of athletic definition but not overly so.”
And while Love has long had a reputation for being difficult, Riley’s experience was anything but. “She was actually great to work with,” he says. “She got back with comments pretty quickly.”
So. According to Activision’s Vice President of Music Affairs Tim Riley, Love knew all about what Cobain would look like and had direct input on the finished product. Also, I’m sure she signed releases.
How does she have a legal leg to stand on?
